I have no idea if this is the right place to post this and I also haven't checked whether it has been said before but here goes anyway.

I think it would be so much easier if we could search within a thread for a keyword. I did a search for info on equipment and I got masses of Detective Agency Recruiting. I knew the answer to my question wouldn't be there. If the search engine appeared at the top of each thread instead of only on the whole list of message board it would help a great deal.

And my other gripe at the moment after having to trawl through pages and pages of information that I either already know or don't need to know yet, is the amount of "This reply has been deleted by a Moderator".

Couldn't you just delete the post entirely. Obviously they were either being unhelpful, rude or double posting, so why do we need to see that they posted something. The Welcome Newbies has pages where there are maybe 2 or 3 posts and a whole screen of "deleted". What's the point. Delete them entirely please!

Cheers, Lolita Marinez

As an agency director I have moderator privileges for the agency message board. Under each post there's a link that says 'Delete'. If I click it, the text of that post is replaced by "This reply has been deleted by a moderator".

I'm assuming the main message boards work the same way. It's not a question of what the moderators decide to do, it's just the way the boards work. Please also remember that the moderators are volunteers who give up their time for the sake of this community.

Lolita, I agree the search functionality isn't great, especially for basic game concepts where the relevant words are going to be used a lot. The Newbie FAQ should give you the information you need to get started, and it's also worth checking out sites like http://noir.sleuthtips.com/ for extra hints and tips.

Your interpretation of Lolita's post is interesting, Nick. *wonders if Nick is one of the new recruits to Noir*

Lolita, to answer your questions.

Your search suggestion is a good one, and I believe has been brought up before. We haven't seen anything on it, but Ben sometimes surprises us with new features, so don't lose hope.

About the deleted posts... The moderators are not doing that intentionally. When they delete a post, it leaves it there but replaces the text with "This reply has been deleted by a Moderator". They do not have an option to remove the post completely, unless they remove the entire thread, which is usually not appropriate. That's just the way this application works. Maybe as an alternative resolution, people can stop writing stupid posts that need to be deleted ;)

Well that is why we ask questions. Because we don't know how things work and we want to find out.

I'm sorry if anyone took offense to the wording of my post. I did say please and I wasn't trying to be nasty in any way. I simply asked "Couldn't you" and now I have been told that mods don't have that power I think the question should be redirected to Whomever set up the boards.

*wanders off mumbling about strange people who read things that aren't there and others who are so touchy...............

And as an afterthought, having written my original post at 1am in the morning and returning to find that I left out ? question marks and other grammatical editing.......

An "Edit my post" function would be good too please.

Thankyou

Lolita

Hehehehehe. Thanks Secret Squirrel. I have also seen that show and you are correct. Very dangerous indeed.

But very lucrative if you manage to find what you are looking for. Luckily last night I found right place and managed to catch the right information to help me on my way.

Chuckles at Squirrel....

The Search function on these boards isn't the greatest, agreed, Lolita. Unfortunately, it isn't all that old. Before that, we didn't have anything at all--we had to search for stuff manually. Major, major ick.

As for the "Deleted by a Moderator" stuff, yes, they're annoying also. But unlike many other sites, those posts aren't permanently deleted. The Moderators delete them from the Main Boards, but they are saved elsewhere (chuckles again at Squirrel).

One improvement many of us are hoping for sometime soon is that the search functions could be improved, and that editing functions could be implemented into reply tabs. We don't know when or if it will ever happen, but many of us do have that on the Community Christmas Wish List, so to speak. ;-)

I think I trawled last Saturday night. I wouldn't recommend it.

Lolita- I'm not sure who your post is directed at, as both Cordelia and I answered your questions by explaining how the boards worked. I'm failing to see how you interpreted that someone took offense to your post. Unless maybe you weren't really looking for an answer and just wanted to either vent or immediately have your gripes taken care of by the Sleuth staff? And since you brought up touchy..... nevermind.

On a side note, in Sleuth Noir, either saying explicitly or implying that the moderators are not doing a good job will not solicit much of a positive response on the boards. That being said, I don't see how you feel that you have fallen victim to this phenomenon. Cordelia politely reminded you that the mods are volunteers. I'm not sure if that is what got you worked up.
