The one who committed the crime fled

I was working on a favored case from the Banker and have have identified the suspect who committed the crime. I was about to make the accusation, when, after clicking on her name there is this message that she already fled...Good Grief.

I went to one of my contacts and he said he doesn't know where she'd gone.

What I'm worried about is, does this go against me as a Quit Case and a favored one at that? Is there a way for me to track her down?

Sad part is I'm not even subscribbed yet...

Had a moment of panic there...I didn't quite know how to approach that kind of case, since it was my first to experience such a situation. i was able to get the information from one of the townies and sure enough she was back at her home ready to face the charges...

Whoa! Close but no cigar. Thank you.

Suspects can flee without warning after about the Really, Really Hard level. There's two ways of tracking them down. The most common is to check with all the W/E townies until (hopefully) you find him/her. The second is by using the faction skill Underworld Connections.

(There's a couple reasons why veterans tell newbies not to get question-happy with the townies. This is one of those scenarios.)

Thanks for the quick reply, Breitkat. I happen to be playing RRH and having IH favors. It happened to me twice already. The first time was when the one who fled was the 2nd witness. I was able to get the information from my contact, talked to the witness and nailed the case with her testimony.

This time, the one who fled was the murderer. I had all the evidence against her and when I was about to accuse her, voila! - she fled. I wasn't expecting that...I panicked 'coz I've yet to subscribe and get the Underworld Connections skill. After awhile recovered my senses and was able to get the information from one of the townies.

Now I know... Thanks to that experience.

You're welcome, Angus. Hope it helps. You really don't have to panic, trust me. Out of more than 3000 cases (this was before I had Underworld Connections), how many suspects got away cause I couldn't find 'em?? Two. Yeah, you heard me. Two. Both of those had fled to W/E townies who had permanently clammed on me, and I had to quit those cases. (Big deal)

Now, with close to 5000 cases under my belt, for both myself and helping various people, my permanent flee count is up to....three.

It's disconcerting when they take off on you, but almost always, if you're careful with your questions with the townies, you'll find your guy. ;-)

I am not subbed, nor have the Underworld connections skill.... The flee count , I think is 8+....
But in most cases, there is not much of a problem as I usually find the person.

Now that we're done with that...any thoughts on how accurate the theory about how "The one who smelt it, dealt it" is?
