How do you collect books?

I have a book but I don't remember buying it. Can you earn them from favors or as a reward from solving a case?

Nope. The only way to get them is by buying them, or occasionally doing special missions or other tasks. Some are free, some are expensive, but all of 'em are available to people throughout Sleuth in the various cities. You just hafta go find 'em. Happy hunting!! ;-)

If we told you, it wouldn't really be 'hunting', now would it? Wouldn't that be more like 'getting'?
Hunt around.

You dont need books to finish anything in this game...the books are just something extra to get!
And tanking time to look for your answers, also does not affect any political standing you are trying to get in good rank with.

Ugh. Big ugh. Ugh to the power of whomp. You are confusing collecting books in the game with knowing about what happens in detective books to help you with 'little jobs' (which, for the legions of anglo-saxon derived constipated out there, is still the WASPiest way of saying "blast a dookie"). Which is cool, cause the good people at Ex-Lax are always looking for people with low blush reflexes to do a little modeling work.
Books won't help you finish 'little jobs'. Reading some -- like ^she said -- might.
