I played a lot of World of Warcraft a while back, and I always used to hate it when people posted on message boards complaining about nothing more than doing badly or screwing up somehow in the game, but I'm sorry, I'm actually pretty steamed right now.

I logged on right at midnight (according to the Sleuth clock, I work late - so these are my normal hours), really looking forward to playing. Yesterday, I had decided to just go around to other cities and check them out and when I logged off last night I was in Delhi.

So, I just logged on about a half hour ago, and quickly lost just about all my money and all my cases because apparently there are pirates blockading Delhi and I couldn't get through. So I've got no money and I'm cut off from my agency in a city where I have no contacts. Oh, and I have one case left.

I would just chalk it up to bad luck and say it was my own stupid fault, but I've read the newbie FAQ and other stuff around the site, and I've never read anything about pirates around Delhi, or pirates randomly blockading cities. Pirates blockading Cairo, sure, but that's it. I think if this is a hazard players can face while traveling, that should be advertised, preferably in the Newbie FAQ.

And if not, at the very least players shouldn't lose their money and cases for trips that they weren't able to make.

So do these pirates ever leave Delhi or should I just cancel my subscription?

I think you've missed an awful lot of threads about this and doubt you used the search facility, understnadable if you are hot under the collar.

Pirates only permenantly blockade Cairo. But they can randomly strike every time you make a trip. It adds a hint of risk to traveling. It is anoying but without wanting to give a spoiler can be blocked by getting the Pirate Negotiations skill.

Your cases will have reset, a few cases and favours and you will have the money to travel again. Failing that there is a facility for agency team mates to send you money, sure someone can loan you some cash.

My advice, make sure you've got plenty of cash when you travel in the future and for now go enjoy an authentic curry!

Truth is that even if you'd known about the pirates :) you'd still have to travel; you'd still have to roll the dice and take your chances with the rest of us; and you'd still have gotten pirated; still have lost your cases; and still have done your dough.

This way you've learnt about the pirates the way it should be learned, through game play, and natural progression.

The only difference is between 'Damn I knew those Pirates would get me one day', and 'Hey look, Pirates got me!'.

Oh and wait til you get pirated 2, or if you're super lucky like me and ummm Ranier and others? you'll get pirated 3 times in one day, from the same port, lose ALL your cases and a wad full of moola to boot, ad go absolutely nowhere!! BIG FFFF...UN!

I hope you learn all the Sleuth things the hard way :) Get an FA because you can't tell the difference between Ananda and Amanda, fail a hunt coz you don't know east from west, and get locked out of your Agency because you'd never heard of the 48 hour (or is that 24 hour rule) :)

And that's because mayyyybe, mayyybe I've done all those things myself :) and I look back at them with rueful fondness, and realise they helped 'make' my Sleuth experience what it is.

Happy Sleuthing, and there's always tomorrow :D

Secret Squirrel, actually, what I didn't make clear in my first post is that I DID get pirated 3 times in one day. And not only 3 times in one day, but 3 times in a row. I made three attempts at a trip within 1 minute, and each time I got pirated. That's how I lost all my money and cases, and that's why I eventually thought it was a blockade rather than a random event.

Stooby, you're right, I didn't use the message board search engine, but even if I had, how could it have helped beforehand? Like I said, I didn't know pirates were a hazard, so how would I have known to search for "pirates?"

Thanks for both of your advice. I've cooled down now. My agency sent me some dough and hopefully tonight I'll get my hiney back to the home of the Whopper.

If you get pirated once, try waiting for at least 5 minutes before attempting to leave to a city again. Its more than likely that in one minutes time frame the pirates wont be gone!

Usually works for a few of my agents...give it a try next time and see what happens.

Good luck!

Yes and happy Sleuthing Jo, you'll be back in the home city in no time and will have a great tale to tell down the pub with your fellow agency members.

lol well aren't you the 'lucky' one :) Oh and I also like to try logging out and then logging back in again to break the stretch of being pirated.

Um, I'm guessin' you've never been to Big Lucy's Cabaret or the London Library before, Joe?? You'll find hints about the pirates at both these places, if you care to look....

(And you thought Lucy's was just a place to blow your money....Oops. ;-)

The pirates have been around as long as Cairo and Shangri-La have, and most of us have been pirated multiple times at least once before. Bottom line, we sympathize but better luck next time.

Well, yeah I've been to the Cabaret, but again I thought that was just Cairo where they were active.

It's cool. I'm over it. It was just really frustrating to look forward to playing and then within five minutes all my cases are used up.
