I was a little apprehensive reading this.
I didn't enjoy book 5 and 6 so much, with book 5 being my least favourite.
Also, Harry Potter and so many characters have been part of my life for nearly 10 years now.

I've shared the love of the book with friends, we've waited outside book stores to get the copy of the latest HP when it went out, played Harry Potter Trivia Pursuit Knockoff and had Harry Potter Fancy Dress parties.

I wasn't so sure I was ready for this journey to end although it had been one I'd waited so long for.

WOW. I wasn't disappointed. I cried, I laughed, I was angry, I was in denial.
I was pleading for her to not let things happen.
Name the stages of grief, I was there as well as being happy, excited and satisfied.

I first cried when Mad Eye Moody died. I think because The Goblet of Fire was my favourite and I liked the character. I realize that Mad Eye was mostly Barty Couch (spelling?) in The Goblet of Fire however, I think because he had to keep taking the polyjuice potion, Mad Eye's personality influenced him a lot :)

I was so angry at Ron too when he left. It didn't come out of the blue at all because she'd established that side of his personality so well during the other 6 books. Although I 99% knew he'd come back, there was a little doubt.

I also was a little sad about Dobby but he was kind of annoying, I guess Dobby was my JarJar Binks. Also, I'd always quite liked Kreacher and though he was quite funny so despite his turn around being slightly Hollywood mush, I liked that too. I think I even cheered when he rallied the House Elves.

Snape. Poor poor Snape. At first I was like, WHAT? WHAT? She has just made him evil, then I thought, no that would be way to obvious, but then I though, well maybe it's a twist on a twist.. So there was a bit og doubt there.
I'm a little sad though that she never gave him any happy ending or any happy moments. True, he died looking into the eyes of Harry/Lilly but he

thought Harry would die and that nothing would be left of Lily.
Ah, Snape is perhaps a very tragic character. And it's sad he came to quite a Judas Iscariot ending, will these people never have a good ending?

FRED! I'm nearly crying again. This really sucked. Big time. Sure, it would have been a cliche but why couldn't have Percy (or even Charlie) died? The whole death/redeemption thing. It really pissed me off, especially since George and him could now be told apart.
I don't think I'll ever quite forgive JK for that.

I also liked her little inside joke at the end to King's Cross, I thought that was cute.

The last chapter had me torn a bit. The cheesy, fairy tale ending part of me was happy while the cynical, sick of conventions side of me rolled my eyes a bit.
I also though the last chapter (Sorry, epilouge) was a bit of, "I was going to write another book but I'm rich, can't be bothered now so here!" type of thing.

I also both liked and disliked the symmetry of the ending.

Teddy: orphaned by Voldemort, similar to Harry in Philsopher's Stone.
James: Even Ginny says, "You're so like Ron" although a little similar to George and Fred in the way he teases.
Albus: I thought seemed similar to Longbottom
Lily: Like Ginny, too young to go to Hogwarts now but wanted too.
Scorpius: Like Malfoy
And Percy sounding like Professor Gongagall. (Spelling).

But I did like it that Neville was teaching though Herbology was his best class, I think it would have been cooler if he was Teaching Defense againest Dark Arts. Especially since he finally came into his own in the Deathly Hallows.

I was also glad that he killed the snake and thought that was fitting and I was glad he didn't die as I thought he'd be killed off.


James: the same as Harry's dad, maybe Harry.

Heh, forget that last line!

Oh, I always really loved Luna and how JK didn't try and make the stuff her and Xeno believed in real. I loved how they were just nuts but could still see what was really going on even if they did believe that Erumpet Horn's were Crumble-Horned Snorkacks.

I'd already guess Lupin would die, but I don't think Tonks needed too and I think that would have been cooler than having Tedding orphaned like Harry.

Oh, and I loved Trelawney's appearance and cackled in glee.

Also, I liked that one of the kids had Snape's name. That was sweet.

Oh and doesn't anyone else not like James Potter (Harry's dad, not son)? He never really seemed a likeable character in the books. I hadn't liked him since Snape and Harry were doing the whole Occumency thing and this book didn't really change that.

Ok So I've already philosophised with LEDie in PM's so I'll just give you the edited highlights... :) my fave part was definitely the Molly vs Bellatrix duel. I was disappointed with the way that Lupin and Tonks were knocked off so dismissively; Lupin being my favourite book (not movie) character.

Snape making Harry look at him so he could see Lily's eyes before he died (albeit a bit Mills & Boon) was very sad. I was never anti-Snape so he didn't have to redeem himself to me, but I still don't think his love (and subsequent acts of bravery therefore) was either noble or healthy, so I'm not sure he deserves the 'hero' status he gets at the end of the book.

lol and poor old Hermione doesn't get enough recognition for being the brains of the outfit for so long.

Overall though I really enjoyed DH. OK I have to admit the epilogue was a bit like really bad fan fic. Eek! But I'm glad to hear JKR is writing an Encyclopedia and doing a bit of a 'whatever happened to...' I need closure, damn it, closure.

I thought the kids names in the epoligue were pretty pathetic. I:m waiting for Ginny/Harry:s next son to be called, MadEye Dobby Remus Tonk Potter Jr. III.

The book was sad. I cried at too many different parts to count.

The part where Fred died was so sad. WHY?????????????????????????????
I agree with amystysx; JK Rowling killed off too many characters. Fred and Colin Creevey, probably Tonks too, should've lived in my opinion.

I didn't like the ending a lot. It left out some things, and it just seemed to me a quick way to end the Harry Potter books. Who were Ted Lupin's guardians? In the epilogue, he was already grown at 18/19 years old. What happened to Luna? Many unanswered questions.

Besides the ending, the book was really good.

Another thing, it would've been better if it was mentioned in the book specifically how Tonks and Lupin died.
