This thread is for ideas, suggestions, proposals, etc. NO idea is too silly to mention :) although some might be too impractical to implement.

As possibilities become probabilities, I will create another thread for the Con itself and concrete facts/decisions/information.

Just an idea, and totally my own opinion....... I think that Sleuth Con II should be organized by a Sleuth committee. This committe could maybe made up of the people who attended Sleuth Con I, with the major votes/discussion going to the community, like where and when.

These people took time out to plan, organize and attend the event and as the first group, this would be quite a fitting reward for their time and hard work.

It would also be great if Ben and Sunny stepped in to make this official, so we all new where we stood on this.

Too many chiefs and not enough indians, as it were.

I think that's a wonderful idea, Miss Guided. The people that attended and planned the first SleuthCon have shown that they are willing and more than able to put together an event of this sort. And I must say that I have not enjoyed reading the comments directed at them by other members of the community. These people spent their own time, effort and money to try to create something fun for us all and this is what they get in return? SleuthCon was not something that was created by Ben and part of the Sleuth structure. This was their hard work, their time, their creativity.

I also like Miss Guided's thought of a vote for where and when rather than leaving it to PMs and postings, etc. That may be a better way for people to let their preferences be known and let other members see the results of everyone's input.

The problem with the where and when's of it all is just that we are so spread out. We're global! It doesn't matter who would organize the next one. Whichever time and place is chosen would work for some and not for others. It is simply impossible for anyone to make everyone or even the majority completely happy. You just have to do the best you can and hope that the community understands.

Miss Guided's idea is brilliant. Those who attended the first one will know about the experience and will have an insight as to what they enjoyed and what needed improvement (if anything).

Does anyone have some insider prices on the Orient Express? That sounds awesome!

Alright... I've very nearly had it with the lot of you. Having logged in as Ran to do some work, I find that most of you few who have a problem with him are still as vicious as ever. Right down to actually threatening him. ::grins:: THAT was a dumb move.

First: DO I HAVE 'STUPID' AND 'INCOMPETENT' WRITTEN ACROSS MY FACE???? I HAD THE IDEA TO DO SLEUTHCON, I PLANNED EVERY EFFING DETAIL, EXCEPT THE TREASURE HUNT (thank you soooo much, Whatsyourname), I ASKED PEOPLE FOR SUGGESTIONS, I MADE DECISIONS, AND I TOLD RAN WHAT BILLS TO PAY AND HE PAID THEM.

And second: You can all get your collective heads out of your asses and get over your petty dislike of one person who will not back down from you.

MY reason for organizing SleuthCon I was purely selfish. I didn't do it for the community, I did it for me. My reasons are my own and I will not share those with the public. And now I will organize SleuthCon II for the community.

And YOU, RAN... You can back off a little. This IS my baby. YES, you will have a bigger part in the organization of it, as will others. You are NOT running this show.

And those of you sitting there with smirks on your faces "knowing" that I'm just saying all of this to cover for Ran can take a flying leap at the moon. And, believe me, 'Leap' is not the word I really want to use there.

Consider this quote, "Any community which rejects even ONE of it's members is NO community at all."

Finally: PLEASE feel free to post suggestions here. As I said when I was organizing SC I, I will consider ALL suggestions, but some may not be practical and we can't do it all. As soon as we have a plan for where, I can and will ask for volunteers from that area to help out.

applause,,,,,,

well done Rhiem...

okay so it took me a while to read everything here... and after i took too long to reply i had to re-login...

I have to say.. I am a little pissed too.. I saw very few people willing to help with the first Sleuth Con... and now it seems like a pissing match. *shakes head* this thread was for SUGGESTIONS ... or did I read the title wrong?

Rhiem did all the work with Sleuth Con I... I just did what was needed when asked. Just as I will do if help is asked of Sleuth Con II.

I think it is great that so many want to help. But in my opinion if you were that concerned with the planning of the event why dont you just post your suggestions. Goodness, Rhiem had looked at every suggestion that anyone has put forth. Do you think that if you told her that you wanted to help that she would say no? or that if you had a suggestion that worked that she would turn it down?

As an attendee of SluethCon I, I would like to say Thank You to Rhiem, while we would have liked a bigger turnout it was still fun. I still laugh at the fact that at the dinner theater, our table asked the question that established the motive, thanks , Briet (sp).

All that said, I don't have the time or energy to organize the next one, if it is finacially possible I will attend again

Rhiemma, it was great that you got a group rate, the meals included was probably too far. I know myself and woody never used those breakfast coupons and I know it you probaly had to pay for 20 at luncheons even though there was only 8 of us.

It was great that Ben came, in fact him and me went 30 miles the wrong way finding the hotel, but that's another story

I like the idea of getting together to meet everyone. From the business standpoint i can see that it would probably help Ben and Sunny the most if it was tied in somehow to a gaming or video game convention. Something tied into the distro of the new game (Sleuth II right?) <I know I've been gone a while.> I've been getting interested in viral campaigns, advertising, and networking lately. Video podcasts, blog postings, digg, stumbleupon, and various other web 2.0 (ha ha) features could be utilized to help publicize the launch of the new game along with the sleuth con II.

Back to suggestions... in DC: The intl spy musem http://www.spymuseum.org/ San Fran has Alcatraz, plus the huge tie in to Dashielle Hammet. Los Angeles has lots of mystery dinners as well as MANY famous murder mystery locations which you can go to for tourist type places. (didn't say ideas would be in good taste.) As well as Raymond Chandler and many other Noir Writers. London has the Jack the Ripper tours as well as the Tower of London. I'm sure there has to be stuff like this in other major cities around the world. A mafia/Al Capone tour in Chicago maybe? New York is one of our cities in the game. Maybe a nice tie in to visit there.

Just some ideas, hope they spark some debate.

::HHHUUUUUUGGGGGSSSSSSSSS:: I've missed you! :D

West Coast won't be this year. But, it's never too early to start looking for venues here. :)

It will be Mid-West... just have not made a firm decision yet as to where. I'm still researching locations and venues.
