This thread is for ideas, suggestions, proposals, etc. NO idea is too silly to mention :) although some might be too impractical to implement.

As possibilities become probabilities, I will create another thread for the Con itself and concrete facts/decisions/information.

Woo Hoo, lets hear it for the mid-west. I think hotels and overall expenses will be cheaper in the mid-west. So that will be a big plus.

Has anyone ever heard of the mystery dinner train and know what city that is located in?

One suggestion that some turned in was:

Very similar to the dinner theater we attended in Orlando.

There is actually a Murder Mystery dinner train, but it is in Florida:

And for those of us who would love to do the Orient Express, I give you the American Orient Express:

Not to be putting the idea of a murder mystery down, but since many are complaining about the cost to come, doesn't a murder mystery cost quite a bit per person?

Wasn't the one last year just done by the organizers?

If it wasnt, it could be put together by volunteers who would be attending and therefore, cut the cost of the actual "dinner theater". It would be a nice creative outlet for people who want to participate.

Biggie,

The organizers put on the treasure hunt, we went to a dinner theater for the murder mystery. The prices that I've seen in all the sites mentioned in this thread are reasonable, about $45 per person, that is pretty cheap for dinner and a show.

We did however, talk at SleuthConI about putting the murder mystery on ourselves. Carriemehome had some murder mystery games that she was going to send to Anikka for ideas of scripting one.

It was asked if we would all be willing participants and nobody declined the invitation.

Hopefuly SleuthCon II has a bigger turnout, and more importantly, I hope I can make that one as well

Well, I'm glad the bickering has stopped. It sounds to me as though Rhiemma did a great job with Con I and will build upon her experience for Con II.

For a few pages of this thread I was deciding that I'd hold my own, personal, one-person only, Con here in Portugal. Reckoned it would be safer on my own!

I'm really glad to see sense prevail in these last couple of pages.

My best wishes to Rhiemma and her team (known and anonymous) as they prepare the main Con II. And also my best wishes to any other team who prepare Con IIa, IIb, IIc in different parts of the US or the World. An internet video conference thingy would be a good way of linking the groups.

As an actual suggestion, if the conference room(s) have internet access then perhaps there could be a Hunt for one morning/afternoon/evening at the Con. Online so that those of use who can't attend can be involved. It would probably have to be a variation prepared by the Sleuth Admin team so that it was possible to do it in a couple of hours.

The web video part of the conference could be a sort of extra - ie those of us who are not at any Con could pay to watch. The same with the Con Hunt - those of us not attending would pay to play. These would be small amounts but would hopefully cover the additional costs involved, especially in the web video link.

I can see myself sitting at my desk at 3 in the morning just to be involved in the Con! It's 3.45 here now and Sleuth time is 20.45! It would be fun - and the only way some of us could even hope to be involved.

Well, that's my input!

Thanks, Biggie... yes, it does cost to attend one, and was included in the cost of attending this last Con. As Ctown said, this is something we all discussed on the last day of attendance and it was suggested that we do our own. This was an idea I looked at for the first one, but not knowing how many would attend made it impractical to plan. Annika has one in the works and I would love to (read 'plan to' ::grins::) use that for SC II

That is a very nice suggestion, Flautim... and one that can certainly be worked in if we have the technology available where ever is chosen.

I do have questions for all of you...

1) is internet access a must for you to attend? We've looked at some really nice places that would afford a completely private venue, and be actually affordable, but there is a possibility that this could mean no internet. If that is so... we would NOT be able to uplink to others per Flautim's suggestion.

2) how far are you willing to travel from a major airport? some of these places could be up to and a little over an hour's drive away.

3) How convenient do you want it? Hotel in downtown big city minutes from airports and with all the amenities within or close by? or will you give up some amenities for a private lodge type setting with the possibility of cooking our own meals? (And little or no connection to the outside world since one of the nicest sites recommends bringing a calling card :D)

I appreciate as many of you as possible providing input on this as it will go a long ways toward helping me make a final decision.

1) Internet access is not important to me. Since I will be there with everyone I Instant Message on a daily basis.

2) If we coordinate, anyone who has to rent a car can give rides to others. I also know, that sometimes those shuttle buses will take you over an hours ride away, but the one I used in Atlants did cost about $25.

3) I'm no help here because both sound fine to me. I can see pluses in both.

Also, everytime I talk to R Anstett he is baking, cooking, etc. So I'll just have him cook my meals as well so that wont be a problem. lol
