Question about stats on the high score board

I was just perusing the weekly high scorers (wow! you guys are amazing...) and was wondering just how it is possible to complete so many cases (200+!) in one week. By my count, 7X12 is 84, plus maybe another 4 favors per day - that still only makes 112, if you solved everything. Where are the other 100+ cases coming from?

Just in case Chron reads this before leaving.

I am happy that Jas got a contact, I am in the middle of testing to see if the information you gave out publicly works or if there is something else that needs to be done. As far as I am concerned the jury is still out on that.

I did not say I knew everything in anyone's heart or mind.

I have been just as much reviled at time in the community as you seem to feel you are now. I have never said I would walk away because people did not like the way I play the game.

I follow the rules we have, and the rest of the "community traditions" are just that. Traditions. Things change, and the community grows. There needs to be agents of change in any community. They are often not looked upon kindly, but they are needed.

I feel compelled to say something here, since I so naively began this thread just a couple of days ago. I had NO IDEA that such strong opinions ran so deep on this topic, and merely asked the question because I was puzzled by what I saw when looking at high scores.

Personally, I am not here to rack up high numbers. I found a game I think is fun, and, quite by chance, found a kind community of strangers. The high scores were merely interesting, and puzzling, to me.

Seems to me that the simplest thing would just be to eliminate them altogether. If we're here for the enjoyment of it, the thrill of the hunt and the excitement of solving cases, then none of us need those numbers at all. Particularly those who have sought to increase a single detective's experience beyond what might reasonably be expected under the tacitly understood rules of the game.

It was only a question, borne of ignorance. I think I know more now than I ever could have imagined! I am sorry that I asked a question that could have, even indirectly, resulted in the retirement of detectives and the dissolving of an agency. From what I have read on other boards, there are bigger issues at play there.

I will continue to do my 12 cases a day, helping my agency as much as I can within those parameters. I think my days of checking the high score board are over... :)

Zanjana - Don't apologize for asking a question. You aren't going to learn how certain things work without asking. You had no way of knowing the way the conversation would develop but fear of how it will go should not stop the question.

Secret_Squirrel - You would lose your bet. woody2 at least knows where to find where Ben posted the info (and now so do I :), though I think that a clearer spot than a thread from 2005 would be helpful. woody2 posted the following:

check this link about no. of agent controlled by a single person http://noir.playsleuth.com/map/cityhall/post.spy?id=3794&first_record=33971

Tz_BG, I agree with your comment to Zanjana. Well said.

Unfortunately, in Sleuth people love to debate the most ridiculous topics.
They always seem to stray from the real issue.

Fortunately, debate solves problems and also deters them. Perhaps if this very excellent question was asked earlier, we would not have lost our Top Sleuther and active community member,as well as an excellent agency.

The idea for rules and a code of conduct has been raised several times. But all turned in to a debacle and angriness.

Unlike most users here, I like being high up on the high scores lists, because after spending over a year here releasing criminals I believe I should be rewarded in some way. Maybe not a special top 20 detectives trophy, or top 10 detectives admin access upgrade to my account, but at least being able to see my name on a list with other detectievs who share my unhealthy addiction for the world of sleuth. I pray that the high scores lists remain in place.

I seriously doubt it will go anywhere, Chelsea! It is fun to get those high scores, there are other aspects that are fun too - actually, I imagine you have explored them all! Were you not so evil, you would be one of my heroes...well, maybe you are, I just won't say so in a public forum.
Wait, did I just post that? darn...

Whoa Nellie and all that!! I missed this entire discussion because I was too busy play an enormous amount of cases. We are an agency of six with six second identities, that's "within the rules" right? It's me, two daughters, two friends and the mother of one of the friends. Yup we share passwords. You don't have a lot of storage room and if you can't go check something out when your stuck you lose your train of thought. We keep lists too, who needs what skill and who is working on what faction, etc. We wanted our agents to have all their smart/charm, smart/tough, good equipment and we all like to work on AI cases. We didn't all start out together and when a new one came in we banded together and helped them get built up so they could join in on the same level as the rest of the team. Key word here.....TEAM. We love to do treasure hunts, we run our MSN IM so we can keep each other up to date on who has what favors. Maybe I missed something but I thought working together and helping each other was the point of- and the perk to- being part of an agency. My daughter married last week.... her cases go to slueth dumpster..... I think not! I had the time and the initiative and did each and every one of them. Passed them around to anyone else that wanted some and did the rest myself. Stayed up and worked cases until they were done or what was left fit in the case files. Was I thinking of "artificially inflating" my score for the boards... ? Not at all, rather I was think great equipment for everyone, money to pay shady, gearing up to go traveling, oh my! Never even crossed my mind that I was being "unethical" or any other such rubbish. You want to do 100 cases a day, I say go for it. Who cares, certainly not me. I thought I was here to have fun ad that's what I was doing. A character's value cannot be determined by the experience score. continued....

One friend has been a sleuther for 250+ days as an unsubbed player. That, to me, says thoughtful and careful, well experienced and a valuable contribution. Our sleuth "family" operates on working for yourself but being what the agency needs during a hunt. If I am in Timbucktoo and they need to use me on a hunt, I have no problem with that. Want everyone to see how "great" you are... go catch those villans. That is uniquely individual and not at all influenced by your agency. Well that's my 2 cents worth and more. I'm going back to saving the streets of New York. E
