Why are there sometimes two sets of footprints, two letters, two threads, etc. If one belongs to the criminal, who does the other belong to?

there will always be one physical evidence (pe) for the guilty suspect.
the others will belong to innocent suspects. it is your job to determine which is the guilty or innocent. if they have a physical evidence but also have a valid alibi, then they cannot be your guilty person. the forumlas for the guilty:

no/fake alibi + pe = guilty
no/fake alibi + we = guilty
unknown alibi + 2 we = guilty

you can see these formulas in the Welcome Newbies sticky thread. also, read the Newbie FAQ's or try playing the tutorial to see how this works.

sorry, i forgot to put it in. WE means Witness Evidence. its when you interview someone and they say "i suspect so-and-so because i saw them wearing the victim's watch" or something like that.

It means witness evidence. I hate it when I get two sets of the same evidence it makes your job so much harder.
