Sleuth Community Contests

First, the brilliant Madame Giry gave us a true gumshoe experience with her organized Biography Contest - which attracted many people's attention. A slew of sleuths put in their feathered quills into the ring and gave their artistic side a try. Emmeline Bogart was deemed the best bio writer of the year with her winning bio. Next came the glamorous Avatar "Beauty" Pageant which Greyling did an excellent job organizing. After a short voting session, the votes were tallied and the beautiful and dazzling Serena Siren was named the 2006 Sleuth Beauty Queen, with Chwanes alongside her as the runner-up.

Yes, everyone had enjoyed these two wonderful contests... but what contest should be coming up next? Contests boost community spirit, and they are an awful lot of fun, too.

What I had in mind for the next contests (these are simply ideas which can be changed to suit an organizer's liking)...

>>The First Annual Sleuth Mystery Writing Contest: Contestants write a short mystery with themselves as the detective, creative suspects, innovative clues, and the townies. They pick their favorite Sleuth city and write and write and write. Nothing too long, nothing too short. A killer must be revealed in the end. An appealing title must be chosen. All entries must be submitted via e-mail to the judges e-mails. Judges gather in a reclusive corner to discuss the entries. Winner is picked, and a special prize is handed out.

>>The First Annual Sleuth "Talent" Show: Are you poetic? A good writer? A funny comedian? Contestants show off their talents in the first Sleuth "talent" show. Contestants must submit their talent and perform what they know in a special thread. Judges or voters will select the winning talent and the performer. Prize is given out.

>>The First Annual Sleuth Speech Writing Contest: A slew of topics will be made available by the organizer. Contestants must choose a topic and write a good long speech about that topic. Draft it, edit it... be like a true writer. Contestants present their speeches in a special thread, and the judges or voters will choose the best speech. The winning writer will receive a prize.

So everyone, what do you think?

If you'd like, suggest your own Sleuth contest here and someday your idea may become reality.

I like the idea of adding a place for people to submit their own detective fiction, if there is any interest out there in writing it. If we have a writing contest, and it gets many entries, I'd consider adding a dedicated tool for writing and reading player fiction.

Oh, that sounds wonderful Ben!

I'm all in for organizing this particular contest - hoping that that will be our featured prize. Then the winner's entry could be the first piece of fiction available for reading.

I'll see if I can pull a few strings... let's try to make that our next contest then. :)

That sounds like a lot of fun...I love reading people's bios - everyone is so creative, and it would be great to read more by such talented authors :)

Great Idea!!!
