WARNING GAME SPOILER!!

If you wish to enjoy the adventure of figuring out this game on your own, DO NOT read the rest of this post.

If you are too lazy to read through a page or two of threads to see if your question has already been asked a zillion times, then PLEASE read this first!

Welcome to Sleuth, and your new addiction.  There is no cure, so just accept it and enjoy it! Here are a few tips and hints that you should find helpful, and are among the FAQ of the newbie boards.

First, a great place to FIND ANSWERS and cool history threads about Sleuth is in the Moderator Picks Board. The Mods have picked out their favorite bits and made them easy to find. In addition to personal favorites, try looking over the Newbie FAQ. This can be found on the bottom of most pages as a tiny little grey link. Also the Help file at the upper right of most screens is packed with little useful tidbits.

HOW DO I SOLVE a case? First off…we recommend that you try the tutorial found on the front of the case page. It won’t count against your daily caseload, and it will give you an idea of how the game works. It’s not set up to walk you through the most efficient course through the game, but to show you how the game works, leaving you to find your own strategy. The following formulas will help you find your murderer.

PE+Fake/"none of your business" Alibi=guilty
WE+Fake/"none of your business" Alibi=guilty
2 WE = guilty

PE=Physical Evidence WE=Witness Evidence

Having a clammed suspect that will not give you an alibi is not the same as a fake/none alibi.

PE+WE DOES NOT = Guilty

Q: Can there be more than 3 WE(Witness Evidence) in a case?

A: Yes. Sometimes there are more than 1 false WE but there will always be 2 pointing to the guilty suspect. As a result, you can't assume you've eliminated the possibility of someone commiting a crime based on how many WE don't belong to a suspect.

I've a question: Is an unconfirmed alibi the same as a false alibi?

No, there are three things that can happen with an alibi.

Liar or No Alibi = they might be guilty, need evidence against them.

Real Alibi = they did not do it, (one of the liar will be in this category after using the Research skill)

Clammed up or Unable to confirm = you do not know if they might be guilty or not.

I've done it! I've read the whole 'Welcome Newbies' thread!

Big thanks to all you wonderful helpful people.

Found the answer to the question I was looking for, which was "is it ever true that none of the PE points to the guilty party?" - answer seems to be "no", unless I left my brain somewhere back on about page six...

Still a bit muddled about WE. Is this right:

There are always at least 3 WEs.
2 of them will point to the guilty party.
It's not possible for 2 WEs to finger the same innocent person.

Yours in need of a gin and tonic,

Cordie :D

A well deserved G&T coming up after reading through the entire thread!! :)

In answer to "is it ever true that none of the PE points to the guilty party?":
Yes, in the beginning it is possible if you do NOT have basic hair and basic thread analysis (each detective comes with basic hand writing and basic foot print analysis so those you'll always find). But until you have all 4, then it can happen that the PE which matches the killer might well be the thread or hair you haven't found.
However, once you have all 4 basics the answer to your question is a definite "No" :)

On to your second question:
There are always at least 3 WEs - Yes
2 of them will point to the guilty party - Yes
It's not possible for 2 WEs to finger the same innocent person - Exactly :)

Happy Sleuthing :)

Thanks!

Sorry for not being clear about the PE - should have specified "as long as you can find it all"! Must be getting blase about those advanced hair and thread skills :)

Now, where did I put that lemon?
