When I was about 4 years old, I was staying at my parent's friends house. They had a daughter about my age who was bigger, stronger, meaner and a lot tougher than me. I was staying the night and she told me the Incredible Hulk was under my bed and would grab my ankle when I got up. Well, I lay there terrified.
After that, whenever I went to bed, I'd have to jump from a distance into bed... or I'd make sure if we moved into a new house my bed was by the light switch so I could be in bed when the light went out and nothing could get me from under the bed.
I even still find myself leaping into bed sometimes to avoid the monsters from beneath.
Anyhow, I was about 8 when I first heard this story and about 16 when I heard it with the added dimension of "licking".
I am sure IF it was that story and not the Hulk story I'd heard at 4, I'd never have slept again.

Anyhow, here goes.

Well, I have to say, I'm a bit addicted to the supernatural, so let me give it a try (even though Halloween is 8 months away) ...

Peter Flosnick was a geeky and unpopular kid. He said that the local urban legends flying around were "dumb and scientifically incorrect", and he was a firm disbeliever of ghosts. Hannah Yim and Katie Macnair, on the other hand, were supernatural kids... they ADORED the urban legends that were being whispered to everyone. They hated Peter because of the fact he wasn't a "believer" in the supernatural.

One day Peter was walking down the hallway when Hannah and Katie approached him. They wanted him to BELIEVE, so they began telling him the story of the Cadaver's Hand. They said that the hand attached itself to any dangling lamp string, and when someone were to try and turn on the lamp... the hand would strangle them to death! Of course the girls had made this up, but they had a plan and it seemed to work. Peter shuddered after they finished their story.

"This isn't a true tale. I know you are making it up, so will you leave me alone?" he finally said.

Hannah sneered at him. "You're afraid, aren't you Pete? You're scared... admit it. I saw you shudder."

Peter ignored her and continued his walk to his next class. Katie, who was determined to get her plan to work, stepped in front of him and stood her ground. Whenever Peter tried to walk around her, Katie simply stepped in his way.

"OK, let us prove that the story's real. Meet us inside the janitor's closet after school." She leaned close to Peter, to make sure he heard every word.

Peter shrugged. "Fine, I'll be there. I'll disprove that fairy tale of yours."
He smiled smugly and walked away.
*******************************************************
Hannah and Katie had, in fact, a real hand. They planned to scare Peter's guts when he entered the janitor's room. All they had to do was hang the cadaver's hand on the lamp string, and watch the whole thing unfold. >MORE>

When Peter showed up, they hid behind a couple of lockers. They stifled a few giggles before Peter touched the handle of the closet door. They quietly laughed and cackled as Peter walked in and closed the dorr behind him. When he disappeared into the closet, and after the door had clicked behind him, they tiptoed away from their hiding place and leaned their ears on the door. But instead of hearing a scream of fright, they heard a choking gasp. The girls stared wide-eyed at the door. There were no sounds of movement... and for five minutes they stood beside the closed door.

"What do you think happened to him?" asked Hannah.

Katie shrugged, but she knew that Peter was probably playing a small joke for revenge. But she had to admit he was making her worry a little. So she grabbed the handle of the door and tugged it open. What they saw inside made almost made them faint.

Peter was there, slumped in the middle near the mops... his neck swollen and his eyes bulging. The cadaver's hand was firmly gripping his throat... the grip that had killed the poor boy.......

The story is indeed a frightening one, and the moral is that you should always double-check to see if the Cadaver's Hand isn't hanging on to a lamp string... or else you'll be like poor Peter, dead and gone...

This is the verse found in my story "Doll Parts"

"There once was a place where evil men tread,
"But something bad happened, now it's owned by the dead.

"It's children are china. It's mother is woe.
"Once you come meet them, you won't ever go

"I can bind them no more in their vengeful calls,
"They rule the house from within its walls.

"For they are the children of restless hearts,
"And in their wake I am simple doll parts."

It's too long to put an excerpt here, but it's in "On the Other Side".

My grandma always told me a story when I was little , called "It Floats". I cant remember how it all went but after she would tell the story, in her husky voice she had, she would say...."It Floats.......It Floats......It floats...." and each time she would say it, she would get closer and closer to me, and I would keep backing up, then she would go "IT FLOATS!!!!" real loud, and grab me, and I would scream my head off. She told it to me a million times, and even tho I knew what was coming, everytime she would say "It floats" as she came toward me.....my eyes would get bigger and bigger, and she would laugh harder and harder. I think "it" was a bar of soap lol I wish I knew how it all went. Thats the only part I remember and I think, why, is because thats the part that scared me the most. Looking back...how in the hell can "it floats" scare someone? LOL I think it was her voice, and how she was saying it :) Good memories for me tho :)

Heh Mak, it's weird what scares you when you're younger. Besides that Hulk story, our teacher read us Roald Dahl's The Witches when we were 7... there's a part at the start when the boy's Grandad describes the time he saw a witch and stayed in his treehut or something hiding. It absolutely terrified me!

I later read an article on Roald Dahl and he said that part of the story was from a story HIS Grandad had told him about a scary childhood incidence.

When I was younger I saw something behind me in the bathroom mirror. It wore a black cloak covering its entire body and head. It was short with blackness for a face. It was heading out of my parent's room and into the hallway. Then it stopped and began to turn its head to look at me. I watched it and feared it, I remember thinking "God make it go away. Please make it go away." I was watching through the mirror so I finally decided to turn around as its face was almost visible..... And it was gone! Scariest thing that ever happened to me, thats right, it was really did happen. And no I'm not crazy.
