I had this post in the Newbie section, but it didn't seem to get responses. So here goes under Sleuth Talk...

I find it unfair that the weekly high scores do NOT count your favors when tallying the solved case side of the scores. Yet if you fail a favor case, it DOES count on the failed side.

Can anyone explain that logic?

I always thought favours solved were counted. Go figure.

So S.S. Does your response mean that this issue will be rectified, or not?

There's been times when I've wondered how much logic some of Admin's decisions had to 'em. But that's prob'ly just me. Admin does try to do their best to be fair to everybody, believe it or not. ;-)

Two ideas come to mind for explanations. Neither one is a solution, but there prob'ly is a fairly easy solution, one way or another.

1. Favors provide a much larger payoff (when solved) than the average random case. Admin MIGHT have thought that that reward, whatever it was, was a good enough payout to take the place of a counted case on the High Scores List. AGAIN, that's speculation on my part, not truth.

2. When Admin was putting all this together, the line of programming that said, "Count solved favors under the High Scores List along with all the other stuff detectives do.", (Admin would put that into so much better computerese than I EVER could ;-), might have been forgotten or left off the page of stuff to do somewheres along the line. AGAIN, that's just speculation, but do you have ANY idea how many lines of gobbledy-gook are in the average computer program?? Trust me, it's mind-blowin' to average Joes like us. One little line like that is INCREDIBLY easy to miss, and if it doesn't detract from the day-to-day operations of things, it may be a very long time indeed before it gets noticed.

Just a thought or two, but who knows. Any of your thoughts on the subject, Admin?? ;-)

It's just a response. :) how does 'so noted' sound.

Thank you for your responses, Breitkat and Secret Squirrel. From Secret Squirrel's first response, it sounds like this anomaly was unintentional, so I don't think it has anything to do with monetary payoffs better with favors. Besides, you get less xp with favors to offset the money or merchandise.

I have written a vast amount of computer code, so I know that it takes a lot of thought and effort for the end result to be correct. I also know that debugging is part of the process. Most gaming companies use play testers to find anomalies so the programmers can amend the codes.

I guess what I am asking is whether Sleuth Noir is stagnant, or do the admins care enough to make improvements?

I am not bitter about this issue. It just lets me know whether to invest a lot of time to Sleuth, or should I continue looking for other gaming sites. There are many to choose from, and the most successful sites continue to make improvements when asking players to pay to play.

The "so noted" response is something I would expect from a free gaming site, not a pay to play site.
