It was another rainy foggy night in London, as I walked through the door of the Owl and Walnut. I stood in the doorway to get the chill out of my bones and eyed the patrons of my favorite pub. I could tell that the news of the latest murder victim had everyone scared. The local papers were calling him the new Ripper, Scottland Yard was lost as usual and the only trend that the killer stuck to was the murders were getting more and more gruesome. I had already started looking into the case even before Miss Brandy Marie showed up at my office last night and told me she wanted me to find the psycho who murdered her sister. Its been the longest 24 hours I have ever lived through. And I am no closer to solving the case. I head over to the bar and order my usual 3 fingers of cognac I then head over to my table which is very close to the back. I sit with my back to the wall and watch the door. You learn a few things in this business when you been doing it as long as me and I aint about to get a bullet in the back cause I got careless. I pull out my pack of Lucky Strikes( I have'em sent over from the States.) And my Zippo lighter. I light up take a huge drag and a sip of my drink and try to forget the horrible images I saw today. Charlie asked if I wanted to head towards the library,to get more information. I reluctantly agreed and went off.

Knowing that there must be a guard there,I powdered my nose first and made my dress straight,to look like a "wealthy, goodlooking" lady.

And so,I went in. At first, the guard was reluctant to let me in,but with some flirting and a "possible" date,he let me in.

As I looked in the card catalog box,I found what I needed to find.

And so,I got a book, titled The Sacred Sacrement. It was written by a certain T. S. Smithe.

I wondered... Could he be a relative to Hubert Smithe, the psychiatrist? I made a mental note to let Zeo ask the good doctor that.

As I looked in the book,I was obsessed by it for a while. Gruesome things were written and displayed in it,the most horrible thing must've been the Maya-period...

Just then, something flashed in the corner of an eye and I looked around.

"Nothing" I murmered and I began reading again. "Aha! This must be it!" as I saw a sacrement of which the Ripper "followed". Only to get a hit on the head.

"Ouch!" I yelled and I passed out. Just before my eyes went down,I saw the guard coming in and the guard got shot.

.......... Darkness............

......Total Darkness........
.......Could this be the end?........

"Psss, over here!" Cain whispered and waved Zeo over as he saw the thin detective arriving at Dock street looking around for them.

Zeo stealthily hid beside Cain, and told him of the things he found out with the Yard. "They may have more information for me later. How the situation here?" Zeo asked.

"There were quite a few people coming in and out from this seemingly abandoned building. They all entered from the side door over there." Cain pointed at a dark alley and Zeo could vaguely see a small entrance. "They knocked in a peculiar rhythm, and than they all said something before the guard let them in. It's probably a password, but i cannot read their lips because the shadow hid their faces."

Zeo stood his collar up against the chill of the night. "We'd need to know the password in order to get in. The front door and all the windows are barred, this seemed to be the only entrance..."

"One more thing," Cain added, "of the people coming in and out, I noticed that most of them are young women, but then, there were a few older men. The men usually are more secretive and tried to hid their faces, but from their figures i can tell they are mainly middle-aged."

"Young women.... speaking of which, where is Vulkie?" Zeo finally noticed.

"I asked her to go check the library on ancient rituals. Actually, she's been gone for a long time. She should've been back by now..." Cain relied.

"I'm sure she's just getting stuck with the guards. I'll go help her out. The library is not that far from here. We'll be back in no time."

((correction for the last line above: I'll be back in no time.))

Zeo realized the severity of the situation when he saw the dead guard by the Religion & Sects section. "Vulkie?" Zeo called out cautiously. Only silence replied him.

Running through the isles in solitude, having books with ancient knowledge looming around the thin detective, Zeo could feel that no one was watching him. The library was lifeless. As he exit from the isles, he noticed something shiny on the floor by a reading table. He rushed over and pick it up. An earring. Vulkie's earring. Something was terribly wrong.

"Joseph! As soon as you left, I saw two men coming out from a car and took a body bag into the building..." Cain quickly whispered.

Zeo showed Cain Vulkie's earring. Cain picked it up and looked at it solemnly. He knew who this belonged to.

"It could be Vulkie in that body bag..." Zeo unwillingly admitted, "I just hope she's still alive..."

" Me too" Charlie said. " First things first we need to find a way in there now, do you have nay suggestions?" Charlie asked

" I'm all out right now sorry." Zeo replied.

" Yeah me too." said Charlie.

The two friends sat there forever it seemed trying to come up with a way to get inside that building finally Zeo saw something.

" Charlie that looks like Dr. Smithe walking down the street headed towards the building. Let me go get him." Zeo said.

"Psss, hey doc come here." Zeo whispered from the shadows Dr. Smithe looked in curiously and Zeo grabbed him quickly and placed a hand over his mouth.

"What are you doing here?" Zeo and Charlie asked in unison.

" I-I-I- I'm here for a.... oh whats the use I'm here for the meeting I am a member of the Dark Triangle Society. What do you want with me?" Dr. Smithe asked getting more angry as time went by.

Charlie and Zeo just looked at each other neither one had heard of this society.

" Look detective's I know what your searching for and I do feel guilty about my role in this. I am only a low level initiate here though I'm not permitted in side the inner circle. If I knew who your killer was I would help you out. " Smithe said.

"You need to get us inside doc or its gonna be real unpleasant for you if you catch my drift." Charlie said menacingly.

" Fine I'll help." replied Smithe...........................

"Is it dark out there?" The guard at the side entrance asked through a slit on the door.

"Total Blindness. That's why we need the Prism." Smithe replied. That must have been the secret code line.

The bulky man inside closed the slit and unlocked the door. Zeo and Cain could see several men standing guard by the foyer. "I see that you bought some more new recruits, doctor. Too bad it's not your usual batch of nice young girls." The guard grinned.

A solemn voice coughed from beyond the dark hallway. Everyone stood frozen. Rhythmic footsteps accompanied by the tapping of a cane. Slowly a thin figure emerged from the shadows into the moonlight. The head with silvery grey hair looked intently at the guard, who swallowed hard under the thinner man's gaze. The elder leaned his weight on a walking stick with a prism on the top. "The Triangle is open to all who sincerely wishes to seek enlightenment through darkness. If anyone is into rowdy gatherings, the Owl and Walnuts is open. Go and never return!"

"Uncle Tobi!" Hubert Smithe called the elder. The frail old man turned immediately to Hubert with icy stares. Hubert immediately cast his face downward and made a gesture across his chest in the form of a triangle and said, "Apologies, Wisdom Smithe, I am sure Initiate Gilbur here have no such thoughts in his mind." The guard hurriedly nodded in agreement.

The old man let that pass and weighted 'new recruits' with his eyes. Before the younger Smithe could decide on a story, Zeo spoke up. "Sir, we are here to investigate the recent serials murders around London. We believe that --"

"Come with me." The older Smithe stated without a hint of emotion and dashed down the hall as quickly as his legs could carry him. Even Charlie was surprised at Zeo's blunt question and the old man's response. Before he entered the quiet study, Tobias Smithe turned to his young nephew, "Not you. You should go to your meeting before I regret letting you join. Now, leave these two with me."

Hubert had no choice but to abide. Cain and Zeo entered the study with the older man. He locked the door behind him, and then settled himself on the couch.

"I know why you are here, detectives Charlie Cain and Joseph Zeo." The frail elder said without even looking at them, then he sighed, "They call him the 'new Ripper', I believe, and they are not far from the truth..."

Cain and Zeo looked at each other. "Then you know who is the killer?"

"For many years our Sect seeks enlightenment through darkness. Only by the study of our ancient salvage nature would we gain insight into our true being. We pride ourselves in our strong moral bearings in the midst of the darkest of occults."

"Let me guess, a bad apple in the basket?" Charlie said.

The elderly man sighed. "The ancient Aztec ritual was thoroughly studied at the time I was still a young man, about 50 years ago now. I even wrote books about them. However, things turned sour when a member of the inner circle decided to actualize the rituals… the rest was history…" The old man said solemnly.

"And now we have another one of your member reviving the practice…" Zeo uttered in horror.

"While the original Jack the Ripper kept his hunt in the impoverished Whitechapel area using only prostitutes, this new Ripper dared to take the bloodshed to the entire city, and with true innocent souls! His goal must be to 'consecrate' the entire town with his sacrifices, killed at a new location each time, as per the ancient believes." The frail old man clenched teeth, "I was getting so close to finding out who amongst us was the killer, but my only suspect died earlier today…"

"Mohamed Wasser Kahleed?" Zeo blurted out, then he recalled the other gunner at the hotel and the men Cain had spotted, "There may be more than one accomplices. Charlie saw two men possibly carrying our friend in a body bag into the building not too long ago."

"We study all type of strange occults here; the guards must have thought little of what they were carrying. However, if that was your friend, than she's in grave danger!"

Smithe senior quickly took out an old leather map and spread it out on the coffee table. The two detectives recognized the central building as the one they were currently in, with paths and connections spread out like a spider web.

"This is where they'd first take the girl for 'preparation prayer', at the abandoned inner sanctuary right beneath this building. The room then leads to the labyrinth of the age-old London sewage system. That's why the Rippers were never caught. He just seemed to 'disappear' in front of you." Charlie recalled his first encounter with the new Ripper and nodded. Smithe continued, "By his pattern he would take her to a place he had yet visited. That's everything I know. You can get to the inner sanctuary through the staircase hidden inside that closet over there. Now go, rid the world of this monster!"

Charlie stomped his palm onto the map and looked at Smithe. "Hold on! How did you know so much about the Rippers, both of them?"

"Young men, I was the one who got rid of the first Ripper!" The old man replied proudly.

"But you hid it from the world and allowed this Sect to continue to operate!" Zeo added.

"You are not here to judge what we do. There is so much you kids do not know! Our contribution to the human race is far beyond your wildest dreams! I now give you a chance to save the city and your friend. I can get any detective I wanted. Do you really think we didn't know you two were sitting out there on Dock Street? Do you think my nephew, your only connection to our Sect, just 'happen' to come to meeting at this hour?"

Zeo was speechless…

" Come on! we gotta get down there Zeo, Vulkie's depending on us." Charlie yelled as he grabbed Joseph and headed for the closet.

Upon reaching the closet the two detectives ran down the stairs as fast as they could. When they reached the bottom they saw a labrinth the only lighth was coming from old torches in sconses on the wall. Both detectives unholstered their sidearms.

"Do you want to stick together or split up?" Charlie asked.

" For once lets stick together. This place gives me the creeps" Joseph replied.
" I agree with you on that one." Charlie said.

Both detectives walked down the hall to the left making sure that no one was following them. After walking 50 meters down the hall they both heard a blood curdling scream coming from just ahead.

Charlie took off at a dead sprint Zeo right behind. They rounded a corner into a pitch black room.

" Vulkie!" yelled Zeo and Charlie at the same time. The detectives were skirting the wall of the room Charlie heading left and Zeo heading right.

Zeo heard the movement first...then suddenly the room was lit up by a flash of light. Candles around the room suddenly burst to life.

Momentarily blinded both detectives reeled from the light. Then they could see the shapes of two people in long black robes faces covered.

The first figure whose back was turned to the detectives removed his hood and turned around to face them.

"Earlier".

"Wake up you stupid b*tch" a man said, with a robe on and his face covered with a hood.

I woke slowly up. I looked around and I saw that I was all tied up,lying on the floor.

"Well well well... Look who we have here..." the second hooded man said, with a small laugh. "If it ain't that noisy detective. Where are your friend now eh?" the man asked.

"I don't know. And even if I knew it,I wouldn't tell you. You'd probably just kill them anyway,no matter what. So why you framed Cain?" I asked.

"Well, simply,he was becoming a bit noisy and he "saw" me almost. So I framed him,by planting the knife on him.." the first guy said.

The second man took a bloodied knife out of his robe and began to bring it towards me. "Say your prayers now. We're going to carve you up nice."

As he began to bring the knife on my body, near my stomach,he started to "cut" a small wound.

"AAH!" I screamed.

"Vulkie!" Joseph and Cain yelled and I heard footsteps coming closer, running.

Closer and closer and closer. And suddenly, the light was roomed.

"There you two guys are!" I screamed. "You won't believe who it is" I yelled and the man said "Shut up!" ,as he began to remove his hood and turned towards Joseph and Cain.

It was....
