On the CASE page, during a case, on the right-hand side of the screen are listed evidence, something else, and hints. (Sorry...I finished my last case of the day and can't remember...)

What are these hints, and how can you get them?

Hi there. On the Case file page, on the right hand side, there are three lists--your Physical Evidence list (the footprint, handwriting, hair, and thread stuff), your Witness Evidence list (this is where you'll find W/E Statements listed), and Hints.

Hints are statements given by the townspeople about certain suspects. During a case, you can go to the six W/E townspeople (in NY, the Music Teacher, the Waitress, the Butcher, the Fortune Teller, the Bartender, and the Priest), and "Ask him/her if he/she's heard anything about this case." You'll get one of three responses. 1. "No, I don't know anything about that." 2. "Yes, So-and-so hasn't seen anything suspicious." 3. "Yes, So-and-so thinks he/she may know who the killer is."

Now, IF you get #3, you can go back to your suspect list and try and ask that person to identify your killer for you through Witness Evidence, because the Townsperson has just told you that that person will have some. Will the suspect have W/E for your killer?? THAT'S ANOTHER STORY ENTIRELY. But the person s'pposedly will have some W/E for you. Answers #1 and #2 you can basically disregard, because they won't help you.

Do hints help?? That's up for debate around here. My personal opinion, no, they really don't. The only thing they're really good for is expanding your suspect list when it's been shut down. By going to the townies then and asking them for a name, you can occasionally get a new name, and reinvigorate your case.

Hope all that helps. ;-)

I agree with Breit', hints are pretty useless, except for propping up a flagging list of suspects, however I might clarify:

* Just because, for example, the Music Teacher says she thinks Suspect Bob Brown knows who the killer is, doesn't mean Suspect Bob Brown actually 'knows'! It just means he THINKS he knows.

So if you go to Suspect Bob Brown and he says, 'Yes, I saw Suspect Fred Black leaving the scene of the crime, splattered in blood and a smoking gun in his hand', that doesn't mean Suspect Fred is guilty.

The only thing that makes Suspect Fred Guilty are the three rules.

PE + no/fake alibi
WE + no/fake alibi
WE + WE.
