On several occasions during the game a man in the alley tells me that if I find out who committed the murder he has some information for me...for the first time I made it through but I didnt have enough money in pocket but had more than enough in safe...is there a way to recover it or do you have to have the money on hand when he offers you this information. If so where do I go to find him again..

I'm assuming you're talking about Larry the Toe (who some of us call Larry the Twerp, among other things), not Shady. Larry will appear at the end of some cases and offers you the chance to learn about the whereabouts to Big Lucy's Cabaret, in exchange for your parting with $500. Shady appears during another 'twist' but he doesn't want money at the end of a case. He simply disappears into the night with a snarl and a steely look back at you.

In answer to your question about Larry the Twerp, no, you have to have the $500 on hand when you meet up with Larry in order for him to give you the information about Lucy. Once you get INTO the cabaret, however, if you find yourself short of funds and wish to purchase something there, you CAN go back to your stash at the safe, withdraw the funds, and go back to the Cabaret, AS LONG AS you don't begin another case. The Cabaret will remain where it is as long as you don't go doing more casework. When that happens, it disappears.

You are actually talking about Larry the Toe.

He gives you information to get to Big Lucy's. Many threads in the newbie section about that place, do a quick search and you will find more info.

In brief, it is good for you if you have the money to buy things there, if it takes all you money just for the bribe then it is not worth it.

Once you do get the info, you have to take advantage of it then. If you start another case the location changes and you will have to find and bribe again.

You have to have the money on hand. You cant find him again...just next time, be sure to have the money handy, when Larry pops up again in a case. (although, it really isnt worth it, unless its for a hunt or you've never done it b4, and just want to check it out) :)
