In all of my cases, I receive threats/warning signs from other people (the gunshot, the ghost, etc.) but I carry on with the case and nothing happens (unless the factions are involved).
Just out of curiosity, do these threats ever follow through?

Nope, not at all. You've already got the faction thing; apart from that they're pretty much just there for flavour :)

DO pay attention to the policey hancuffy one though..it can help you by putting a new person on your list.
