What does everyone do for Christmas? Do you open gifts on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day?

I go to my parents on Christmas Eve, and we have a traditional dinner that my Dad's mother started years and years ago when my Dad was growing up. My mom kept it going for him, and the original Christmas Eve dinner is Hamburger steak, french fries and I think my mom makes my dad clam chowder soup. (yuck but HE loves it lol)

This year some are having Steaks but I am sticking with the hamburger steak (over sized hamburger patty) and my mom is making hash brown casserole,in place of the french fries. We eat that by candle light and it is so nice!!

Then we open our gifts on Christmas Day and my mom makes a big Christmas dinner.

This is my favorite time of year and I absolutely LOVE having my family around me...there isnt a feeling like it :) Then the Friday b4 New years Eve (atleast thats when it is this year)we're having our annual family Christmas party for all the aunts, uncles, cousins, etc (on my mom side). That is always nice too!

So tell what you do for Christmas! :o)

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone!!

First off, Merry Christmas, Happy Hanakkuah, and Happy Kwanza! (if i spelled anything wrong, I am sorry).

Christmas is my favorite time of year. Two days before Christmas, I open gifts with my fiance. We have dinner together, just the two of us, and then head for his mother's house.

Christmas eve we wake up at his mom's and open gifts. Then we lounge around watching "A Christmas Story" on TBS (for fans, you'll shoot your eye out kid!). Then we have a big dinner, and finally hit the beds.

Christmas Day we go to my mother's house where we open gifts with my mom and sister. Then we head over to my grandmother's house.

Here we have dinner with my grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins, second cousins, etc. We then play Christmas Bingo. It is like Bingo but you have Christmas themed squares, such as angel, jesus, christmas, etc. My grandmother actually made the game pieces herself! We each are allowed to win up to 3 times, and choose a gift. The gifts are always small and wrapped, so we have no idea what we are picking. Then, after everyone has won three games, we open the gifts and exchange. It is great.

We usually eat leftovers at this point and then head for home. I truly love it.

The games we play at our annual christmas party (with uncles, aunts, cousins, etc) is "hide the pickle" ..where one person hides the christmas pickle in the christmas tree, then we all line up to try to findit. whoever finds it, holds onto the pickle until the next year, then that person hides it.

We also play a game called "Steal A Gift". Everyone brings a $10 gift, places it under a tree, then we all drawl numbers from a hat. The person who has #1 goes to the tree, picks a gift and opens it for everyone to see. The person who has #2, can either choose a gift from under the tree,OR if he likes the gift that the person b4 him opened,he can take thatgift, which is why its called "Steal A Gift". You cant "steal" the same gift twice. It is a real hoot..and its funny how everyone, like husbands and wives, get a plan going...(ex: 'You go take that gift, and if someone takes what you got, when its my turn,I will go steal it again) You may end up with it, or you maynot. hahaha Its a total blast!!

We also have a family quilt. Every year we all put money in ,so much a patch...then my aunt takes all the patches that has each family member name on it,and sews it all together for it to make one big quilt. In a hat, there is pieces of paper with everyones name on it and whoever name is drawn, they win the quilt. Thats nice too,to have something with all family members name on it :) In the center of it, is my mamaw and papaw (which is my mom's parents),then on the outside is their kids, and their families. (my mom has 4 brothers and 2 brothers - 2 sets of twins - my mom is a twin and her one brother and one sister are twins) So I have a pretty good size family and makes it double the fun when playing them games :)

We already had saint Nicholas earlier this months. I had to buy 8 presents, make 8 poems about the person I gave the present to, and I made 4 surprises (conconctions made out of cardboard and paper mache that have to do with the receiver of the present as well.....for instance my brother just became a dad.....I made a crib in miniature.)

Christmas in Nikkie's house.
- I have a tree, this year it sports 200 lights, 10 tiny teddy bears with knitted jackets/mits/hats on, 10 silver balls, 10 balls that are like small bouqets of roses. (Obviously, I have no man in the house, and this is why I got away with it.) Underneath my tree are a huge paper mache father christmas, and a smiling rain deer. Also a bottle of wine, dressed up as santa.
- Christmas Eve my family meets up to go to church. Which is when I will take a nap. Then we meet up with my entire extended family of 35+ loud indonesians, munching on egg rolls and goodies.
- First day of christmas, I am in charge. This means I am prepping and cooking. The others are probably watching Lord of the Rings, or doing something lazy. I have decided to actually make an american style thanksgiving dinner. Just....because I really want turkey. As apitizer I will make sweet melon with smoked ham from the ardens. As desert, a chocolate cinnamon fondue. My mom, her boyfriend, my brother, his wife, and my new born niece will come.
- Second day of christmas, I will head over to the other side of the country (Ok a whole 1.5 hours drive away.) My oldest aunt lives there, who is my favorite aunt and sort of like a grandma. She lives in the forest. So nice walks, then nice dinner.
