I've noticed that when I started, I was getting skill points for every solved case, but now sometimes I don't get any skill points when solving a case. Is this normal? Do you only get points if you progress to harder and harder cases?

Yes you will get skills points faster by doing harder cases.

Skill points are aquired every so many Experience Points that you earn. The exact numbers are fuzzy for a reason.

You should always work on the hardest cases you feel comfortable with. Challenge yourself to tackle one of what ever the toughest level is for you at the time.

With greater challenges come greater rewards.
