Okay, if I could be any sleuth, real or fictional, I would want to be Edgar allen Poe's detective, Dupin. Although each story is uniquem I love his subtly and mystery.
Sometimes, the most obvious spot, is the least likely, and therefore the last place you would look.
Okay, so who is your detective?

Kogoro Mori (Richard Moore). Dumb luck and strokes of genius are my forté. =P Not to mention the occasional ogling of pop stars. All right, maybe not that. But still. Without much work, I solve and collect payment. With skill as a former homicide detective, I can put cases to rest quickly. Almost TOO quickly.
...Whaaaaaat? So I watch/read too much Detective Conan.

Being a teenaged girl, I'd probably go for Nancy Drew also - gorgeous, courageous and squeaky cool with a full support team, plus rich dad providing airfare to all sorts of exotic locales. She knows everything and if she doesn't she learns fast. Also Nan and her friends have a healthy appreciation for good food. I mean they eat a lot. Seriously.
I have a soft spot for Ian Rankin's Rebus too.

Well, the name gives away my favorite, but I have to put in a plug for the two gentlemen who got me into detective novels in the first place... the Hardy Boys! And despite his bumbling character, Chet too...
And one more plug for Encyclopedia Brown! Who else solves cases at the dinner table?
Oh, Inspector Gadget! One of my favorite shows growing up... of course, with all of his accessories that would make even Q jealous, it was still Penny and Brain who solved the mysteries, but you have to respect them for letting their dad/master take all the credit each time...
