I am in the process of producing a Sleuth-related website for Newbie's about the general ideas of the game. I am still working on it . . . not much to see except a rough idea of the home page. Only a few links, too: "What's Sleuth?", "The Game," "Other Parts to Sleuth," and "Links to Sleuth-Related Websites." I need a couple of days to work on it . . . it's really coming along well.

Piczo.com is a website where you can make FREE websites with backgrounds, music, pictures etc. Fast, fun, simple. My buddy, Sir Andrew Clement, told me about it the other day. It's simply amazing. If you have time, make a website for your family and friends. It's really easy.

Anyway, I need some suggestions and ideas about the website. Should I have more links? What should I say? My rough outlook will be completed soon, and then the details and other parts to it will be added. PM me or post here after you've stopped by and looked at it. Give me a few ideas. And don't blame me if most of it isn't finished!

Cheers!

jstkdn,

ONLY the Sleuth people will be able to visit my website. It will not be made public to anyone else. Piczo is actually the maker of private websites. They do not make websites that advertise to others. But, if you wish, Sleuth Chat and Sleuth GuestMap are off of my link page. I was actually thinking about getting some help on the site. Anyone interested? PM me if you would like to help me on my website. Or post here. Whatever.
--I was also thinking on asking Ben to shamelessly link my site from the Community Site page, so it could be kept out of the public's way and only to the Sleuth people--

I think it's a great idea Colonel, & I wish you the best as you create it. I admire you for wanting to add a link to this game. I've certaintly enjoyed Sleuth Chat, the Guestmap, as well as all the other links here. I will yours out as soon as it's done. God bless.

Hmm, I checked out the piczo stuff... While it's fast, I really dislike the fact that you can't add your own CSS (which I use for everything ^^), nor your own html files. It's a bit too limited for my taste.

As for your site (hypoware)... Well, what can I say... It looks great, considering the tools you have to work with. I'd suggest that you lower the font size a few steps, though, but it is, after all, your site. It'll be interesting to see the finished work, good luck with it ^^

Poked around some more, and achieved something around 50% of what I can do if I'm left entirely in charge :P

Anyway, I think I'll give up the idea of maintaining -another- site, but it was kind of fun playing around (and trying to work around the horrible, horrible controls) for a bit ^^

Lol Chantico. Well the bonus is, between the pop ups, banners and cookies that flare up as soon as you stroll in.....you don't even notice font sizes or having control to customize. :)

I really like it when people try to create websites for this community, or help newbies. As so many people seem to want to offer websites like this to advise or help the community, it would be cool if people got together on this. Instead of everyone doing their own thing, and repeating what the other guy is trying to achieve.

What I personally don't like so much is starting a community site with an introduction of yourself. The first 2 short paragraphs or sentences of a website, are the deciding to point for a user to stay or not stay. These paragraphs should describe what the website is for and what your goal was in creating the website was. Starting off with introducing yourself is only a good idea if you have as a goal in mind to promote yourself as a person. If the goal is to aid a community or celebrate a game, then mentioning yourself in great detail is not done. Other then a small byline in a link somewhere or whatever.

Generally as a user, I always hate to be "tricked" in to visiting the wrong websites. If you want to sell me apples, don't sell my pears. If I want information, dont sell anything to me (or dare stick me with a trojan horse virus.) If you are telling me that I am entering a site explaining a game to me, don't let me enter a site that describes the likes and dislikes of another player. And vice versa, if you are telling me that I will visit a website about a sleuth player, don't explain a game to me.

Other advise less words, means I spend more time on your site. Huge things of texts, then I rather read the paper or a book.

Make navigation easy and to the point. If you don't, your visitors will be gone.

If people visit your website. Don't bombard them with cookies and huge blinking banners that draw more attention then the website itself.

Which is why free hosting is never an option.

Aaaand, I think I'll stay out of this thread now, otherwise I might get engaged in something like organizing this entire thing between all those interested, finding a host for the site, etc etc.

So much advise . . . OK, I'll see what I can come up with. Piczo.com is great, but limited. But, free hosting is, like Chantico says, never an option. Thank you jstkdn for your contributions and feedback, and thank you to Chantico for humorizing us with your ravings. DaRu, thank you for your blessings. Now, to do some work on my site . . .
**kidgame2004, I've sent a PM yesterday. Please reply. I need your contributions to my site. Thanks again, jstkdn, for your recommendation.**

WEBSITE UPDATE!
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
I've fixed up the home page, and I've lowered the fonts down a little. I need to upload the Sleuth banner, but that darned Internet Explorer says I'm violating (??).

More links still need to be added to give the site more splendor. I still need a reply from kidgame2004 about assisting me on the site. I might have to ask jojo227 and delvin then. Well, if you want to see my site . . . go to: http://www.hypoware.piczo.com

If anyone has anymore suggestions, they are as welcome as feedback. Thanks.

Ben replied to my Private Message. When I am finished my website, he will add it to the Community Sites page.

I am still waiting for some assistance, or else I'll carry out the entire project all by myself. Anyway, if you're interested in being part of my "assistance team," send me a PM or post here. I'm probably going to finish my website by the end of November. Volunteers, like I said, are very welcome. Suggestions are still welcome (I'm trying to shape my site by the suggestions I get . . . thanks to the people that have helped so far).

This thread is open, and I want any contributions, suggestions, and feedback that you can think of. Please, I have high hopes for the website. Thank you once again.
