Do the recurring characters (eg. the bartender, waiter, fortune teller...) ever give false hints? For instance, if the waiter says that 'so-and-so hasn't seen anything suspicious' is that always correct?

Hmm actually I never thought I had false hints. They are just relaying what the suspects must have told them.

If they say the suspect "hasn't heard or seen anything suspicious", I just dont bother asking that particular alibi if he/she suspects anyone else.

If they say the suspects "thinks he/she knows who the murderer is, I may walk in to ask them if they suspect anyone else and see if they point to the person with a fake alibi.

Of course, these days, I just check physical evidence matches and don't bother much about witness evidence.
