How could an agency set up locations in mutliple cities without becoming completely unbalanced?

I'm thinking one location would be "headquarters". All locations would have independent case files (including crime lab) and deposit boxes. The message board would remain shared.

Ideas:
- The "headquarters" purchased would determine the maximum stats of satelites.
- Overhead based on the number of satelites.
- Satellite can only be in one other city (or just the next city over).
- Case files "expire" in satellites.

If satellites can only be in one other city, then wouldn't the max number always be 1?

Umm...

I don't think satellites were around in the 1920's

maybe field office is the better term. :)

Sherlock, is this something that is going to happen, or are we just speculating on how it might work if it did ever happen?

I seem to remember a response from Ben somewhere, sometime recently about wanting to keep agencies with headquarters only in one city and not having much fancier field offices than we have now in order to keep opportunities for more agencies, rather than large multi-nationals coming in and taking over?

It's so tempting to want more features in different cities for our agencies, but I can see how it might change the dynamics of the game dramatically...

However, I was excited to read in Jojo's interview with Ben that another expansion is on the way.......so curious as to what that might involve!

In addition to what Moonshh said, I think on several ocassions this was already discussed at length by the community. And next to Ben, also the community agreed that field offices should not be much fancier in terms of case files/equip lockers etc.

To me the largest down fall to this is. 1) it takes away a game element, suffering through being away from you HQ. 2) I think for a new agency building one HQ is already a big thing. Having to build more is even more work. I think it would take a lot more time and work for a new agency to have a shot in the treasure hunts. As the older, richer, larger agencies will have an advantage for a much longer time.

i think ben said that he liked the idea of case storage but not a locker if my hazy memory serves correctly.

Gena, that sounds right to me. And of course, I'd rather be able to bring extra gear with me, but don't care so much about cases -- doesn't it just figure?!

Plus, it makes sense that I could pack a suitcase and leave it in a locker or a hotel room (I must be sleeping /somewhere/!), but not as much sense that a case I left in one city would be there waiting for me.

Unless there is another detective from my agency in the same city, in which case I think caseswapping would make sense. That would help with faction cases, or if someone needs an extra case to get that last favor for the hunt or something. I can see a small file drawer in the field office of maybe one case per agent, and they might even lose it when they leave the city? Or when the last agent in town heads for parts unknown?

I am not so much a proponent of these ideas, you understand, as an explorer of them...

I would have liked the idea of swapping clothes with a fellow agency members, if there was no password sharing. With the password sharing going on, it would be like carrying an extra equip locker. I have nothing against password sharing, in fact it is another thing that makes you think about if you trust people or not, or know when they offer theirs that they trust you.
But what I am dead set against, if people being "forced" to handover their pass, or get fired from an agency if they don't. We already seen a few times upset newbies leaving an agency, because they didn't want to give their pass. I think if inter-equip sharing, the push to have people share a pass that they may not want to share, becomes bigger.

And some warning here. Though password sharing is quite common in here. I'd be very careful doing so. I think if there is any place where reputation of the person you share you pass with matters, it's here. We already had a few people crying loudly because they joined another 10 day old detective in a new agency, and were robbed blind. Though I sympathize anyone getting stolen from. You do carry some responsibility in the matter when you hand over your pass to someone else, or promote someone to agent/officer/director within a day. I would be careful to check out someones reputation.
