When you do favours for people, sometimes instead of getting a gift, you get them as a contact. You can have one physical evidence contact (e.g. Shoemaker, Banker, Barber, Tailor in NY) and one other per city. There's nothing you can do to control when you get the contact, other than keep completing favours.
