There are always lots of suggestions about the game flying around, to the point where I wonder if it would be a good idea to have a new section of the message board just for suggestions?

In which case, it could be called "Suggestion Box?" ; )

But it might not be the best idea....things work pretty well as they are, I think.

What I have observed is that most ideas get kicked around pretty well here in sleuth talk, with different permutations and ramifications threshed out. Good ideas get implemented or get dragged up again after a while when they haven't been implemented and people still hanker after them -- or suggested over again by someone new.

I think all of that is a productive process.

Personally, when I REALLY want to make a suggestion that I think Ben will eventually read, I post it on the thread in Game Announcements where he asks for input, things we think will make the game more fun."

Anyway, anyone with suggestions, or suggestions about suggestions, feel free to post here. OR if you start a new thread about it, please post it with a specific title!

Suggestions:

I think avatars should be free to customize from the beginning rather than for only subscribed members. This almost put me off the game to begin with rather than made me want to subscribe (which I eventually will probably if I get enough experience while playing free - if I don't give up due to that pet peeve... blackmail!!!).

More items and more realistic ones: Some of the items with the best are quite silly which has its place but I'd never get them because I'd hate the idea of my gumshoe wearing, say, a Santa Hat or Fez all around town.

I'd tone down the witnesses/suspects clamming up; yes it makes it more fun but can get a little too tedious.

Whilst I can see the appeal in avatar changes for all the admin would need to implement a system where every avatar is checked before it can be uploaded, which comes with its own annoyances - the loss of time for everyone involved. Even with the mods running the software once the admin has made it, some would say that time would be better spent on a content update after two years plus.

The items generally do get better in the manner you suggest. As you go up in experience the difficulty of favour cases goes up too, and with it you receive better items. In addition to this, if you gain political standing with one of the factions then you can visit their headquarters and buy fairly good gear from them. I believe the Santa Hat and Fez specifically are meant to be fun items, though I do not know why they have the stats they do.

Whilst I can appreciate your frustration with the clamming suspects and townies, that clamming mechanic is actually the only thing going that affects the difficulty of cases. The game is all about gaining skills, items, contacts, and so on, in order to gain as much of an edge over clamming as one can. Ultimately this cumulates in Almost Impossible cases where absolutely everyone starts off clammed except contacts. Altering the game mechanics in some manner might not be a bad idea, but to do anything that drastic there would have to be a solid replacement system designed.

Okay this is a big wish and not likely to see the light of day, but I thought I'd toss it out anyways.
I was thinking of the ability to have an agency case, that would allow the detectives in an agency to work together to solve a case.
Basically it could work like a nemisis hunt, but for a group instead of an individual. The clues would be posted in the agency just like active treasure hunts are handled.

The case level to get your twist for an agency case should be somewhere around the Incredibley hard level, maybe the level below or the one just above. The reward for completing would be for the agency in the form of large number of fame points. This would bring some competition for agencies.
The lower level case would also mean that detectives with large experience points would be slowed down. Also a lower level allows for more participation from inexperienced detectives.

And just like the treasure hunts you would not have to participate in it, even if you agency is working a case. And as with nemesis cases participating would not stop you from doing anything else in the game

I like this idea as well, and I think it could also be another way for agencies to compete with each other. Each agency is given "X" number of cases to solve for the day - each agency gets the same cases and the detectives in the agencies would not be allowed to use their contacts or store the cases in the case files for other detectives to help them. It would be a true battle of the wits unlike the Treasure Hunts, which are fun, but not really competition.

I also think it would spice things up and give smaller agencies a bit more of a competitive edge if, instead of the winner accruing fame points, the winner would actually take fame points from the losing agency.

Yeti, I'm just daydreaming, not trying to put any more work on your shoulders.

I'm very fond of introducing more multiplayer content to Sleuth. I think it's a shame there's so little of it at the moment. Multiplayer cases are definitely something I'm interested in, so thank you both for your ideas.

In regards to Miss Marple and Miss Sindy's posts, I came up with an idea of my own - it's not very creative, but maybe some people might like it. It goes further on what they suggested:

I was wondering if you had also thought about the possibility to have archvillains involved in a somewhat similar idea - that a whole agency can hunt an archvillain down. My idea for this was that the archvillain in question has stolen an amount of money (max 10% of what's in the agency treasury) and that in order to get it back, you have to apprehend the archvillain. As a reward, you would also get fame points and of course, the money back.

Such a thing could happen every month or so, because if it would happen every day, that would be very frustrating and unfair :(

Again, I fully support Miss Marple's and Miss Sindy's ideas and would hope that this can be implemented in the game!

Since the sleuth Olympics, I've been wondering if it could be possible to add a scavenger hunt feature to the game. Maybe use the detective shop as the place to enter the contest, and then have lockers there for individuals or teams to store the items in. At the end of the hunt the detective shop automatically pays you the value of your stored items, and the winner gets a monetary reward as well.
It could be set up for individual competition or maybe create teams of two or three players.
