For the cheerfully pessimistic detective!

1. Your client did it.

2. Buying Advanced Thread Analysis means that all threads immediately disappear from the crime scene.

3. The question you need answered most is the one the witness clams up on.

I'm sure more experienced players can add to the list. Care to have a go?

How about this hypothetical scenario: You have finally managed to obtain Advanced Sweet Talking, Advanced Rule Bending, and Judge of Character. Now, whenever you judge the suspect/witness' character, they ALWAYS respond best to Toughness.

Your profile lists you as Very Smart yet the stupid townfolks only give your equipment that raise your Charming modifier. I mean, what the heck? The only Charm ability I have is Judge of Character and I don't think that ever misses.

smart outfit (and skills) would only help you when searching the scene or following a suspect.
If you want them to talk to you you will need either tough or charm interview skills. Then the charm/tough outfit is handy.

You click on Accuse Suspect instead of Ask for Alibi, and then Yes [accuse suspect] instead of No, and you get a false accusation and have to pay Shady. (It was late...) Or you play as two characters, and use your agency only to store equipment and case files, and you move your agency to a different city but forget to leave yourself [or your other self :s] enough money to travel to that city. *twitches*

Yes but I can't do charm. When I question, I use Toughness. But do I get any equipment for that? Nooooooooo. Jerks.

oh when you have suspects, they all have the same alibi and the townsfolk will only account for two or three.

The more compliant the suspects the more sinister and bivalve-like the townsmorons will be.

The more confusing the title the harder the mystery will be. (The Obfuscating Mystery of the Phantasmic Spook would take nearly a whole month of non-stop playing to solve and you'll still end up accusing the wrong guy and ending up in front of Shady or the Inquisitor's Rack.)
