With research...you can exclude a suspect with fake/no alibi from your list... Means that he/she is not the killer!

Research will only come up with an innocent person, however, if that person is already on your suspect list. So if you go the Hall of Records and research your current case, but get no results, you know that there is at least one person missing from your suspect list, and if it's only one person missing, you don't need to bother getting them, as they are innocent.

Research always works as long as the suspect is on your list; it is not a skill that depends on luck or what you are wearing.
