hate to be a killjoy, but dragonflies can live quite a long time by insect standards - 2 weeks to 2 months. Mayflies only live 24 hours in their adult form - hence the Order's name Ephemeroptera (or ephemeral winged ones....)

Both groups spend most of their lives in their immature (aqauatic forms). (more than anyone wanted to know, I expect...)

iv) Life expectancy.
The average life expectancy of the adult odonate depends on the part of the world in which it lives. Generally speaking, in temperate zones the largest portion of an odonate's lifetime, which may amount to several years, is spent in the larval stage while the adult phase is one or two months. In species common to the tropics and subtropics, however, larval development may be reduced to a few months and the adult stage may last a full year.

In temperate zones, adult odonates that survive the vulnerable period between commencement of emergence and successful maiden flight, have an average life expectancy of 4-6 weeks (dragonflies) or 1-2 weeks (damselflies).

Dogberta, thanks for pointing this fact out to us. This was an interesting point you brought up so I spent the day learning about dragonflies, and Koala's. It makes you wonder where some people come up with their so called facts, which pays to check it out before posting. I enjoyed the study of these wonderful creatures, and a lot of fun learning about the creatures of the world. Thanks again for clearing this up. I thought I'd add the additional info about the dragonflies, since you brought it to our attention. Thanks sweetie.

Personally, I think that intelligence cannot be measured. Intelligence can come in so many forms. The intelligence of life skills, anylitical senses, any form of left-brain thought, musical genius, and most importantly in my opinion, the intelligence, of love, bravery and to live with a furious passion. Therefore, philisopically, no one person is more intelligent than the other.
