Lock Picking or Research? Just wondering if you pick a lock, are you able to steal some money or items? What about research? Can you find clues in the city hall? The skills help doesn't states clearly.

Personally, I like Research better. It eliminates a suspect with a fake/none alibi from your list.

If you go to City Hall, click Hall of Records, then click "research current case" or something to that effect, that is where you use Research at.

Lock picking allows you to get information on suspects, when that person isnt home.

It is the skill "pick pocketing" that allows you to get money, even when the client is guilty.

Both are awesome, no you don't steal money, but it's like a free question, you will find either an alibi or others with a motive.

Research eliminates one alibi-less suspect per case. Yes, hall of records in city hall.

Research, no question. Lock picking is nice, but research is a necessity as far as I'm concerned.

agreed, i have both, i could live without lockpicking (its annoying when they tell you what you already know) but couldn't live without research

I have to disagree. I would rather have lock picking. I gives you their alibi or motive regards. So if the suspect would have clammed, you can still get their information. I don't think research is necessary until you are working on harder cases, and by then, you also have better interrogation or charm skills.

I like lock picking, but I agree with gradbeth, it is more of a convience than a necessity...it doesn't always help.

Research saves you from having to ask about an alibi...turning what would be a fake into a real...which in turn saves you from having to ask the townies about evidence..allowing you to narrow down your list even further....in most instances, it actually allows you to elimante two people because of the questions you save about the person cleared by research.....

Both are useful, and everyone above is correct, even when they don't agree. But I would say get lock-picking: you bump into that locked door all over the place, and to have to think every time "if only I had lock-picking!!" is very frustrating!! You can ignore the fact you don't have research much better :-)

(I have two pretty good detectives, one with lock picking and one with research, and constantly clicking the "pick lock" link to be told "you don't have the right skill" drives me CRAZY!!! LOL)

I vote for research, Anyone that is willing to give me a skill that eliminates one suspect with a fake or no alibi, I am willing to marry.

Total n00b question about research... Is it available to Tough/Charming archetypes?

'cos if it is, I think that's where my skill points will be going.
