So what's a good standard for knowing when you have enough evidence to accuse someone? I just falsely accused someone, and I'm still kinda baffled at the result. The crime scene had thread from male clothes and two footprints. So I narrowed my list of suspects down to the guys and tried to check alibis, but pretty much everyone clammed up. I had witness evidence on one guy (Brandon) and the tailor said the thread belonged to another (Landry). Couldn't get an ID on the footprints before the shoe maker got quiet. So, knowing that WE can be wrong, I accused Landry. The actual killer: Kirsten (a girl, so I never checked her out).

Does this happen often? Is any evidence reliable? And how do you know when you have enough?

If I read Myitkyina's post right - I think she made an error in narrowing the entire field to males just because the thread was from a male. Each piece of evidence is from a different suspect, so although you can eliminate the females as sources of the threads, they can certainly be sources of the footprints.
