How do YOU Sleuth, I ask? :O Do you memorize alibis, etc., open Notepad, or what? Personally, I open Notepad. It makes the Sleuthing process much easier for me.

Hello everybody - sorry I haven't visited Slueth Town for a long while, and so haven't been very responsive to suggestions about updates to the old Sleuth Helper.

A lot of things have happened in RL - not least of which has been the birth of our baby girl!

It's great to see other people developing their own Sleuth Helpers - and some even coded by hand! I think the little differences across them highlight the different approaches people have to playing the game. Anyway some people have made suggestions about the difficulty tables in the old Sleuth Helper, so I'll post an update soon.

Oh, I always open up Microsoft Word, and all after when I have all of the suspects and alibis, I cross off the ones that have valid or true alibis. Also, when I get WE or PE on one of the suspects that remain w/ false alibis, I bold them and put them in red to be the first person(s) to ask other people. That's pretty much it!

I Sleuth by getting all my PE, ask around for clues, check the Fortune Teller, and then I go back to the crime scene as a reminder of what it looked like.

After that, I look at the age of the victim and the suspect's relationship with him or her.

If it's a younger person (under about 35) and it was a crime of rage, I usually narrow it down to the owed $$/insane suspects

If it's an older person and the crime scene is really neat, I look @ servants, lawyers, and doctors.

If any of the victim's kids want the inheritance and the body has been moved, I immediately go back and start looking for WE to nail them for being so greedy. A rearranged body usually is a sign of remorse so I look at family and servants first.

Hope this helps and adds to the conversation (-:

Hey Jordan - I'm glad you get all your PE straight right off the bat. This is definitely best practices in sleuthing. The fortune teller thing too. Muy bien!

The other stuff though - I have to tell you, you're reading way too much into minute details that have virtually nothing to do with outcomes of cases. Witness evidence, physical evidence, and guilt are all randomly determined without reference to the storyline or the particulars of its characters. When determining a sleuthing strategy, it's best to build it around the one, single immutable law of sleuth:

PE + fake/no alibi = GUILTY
WE+ fake/no alibi = GUILTY
2WE = GUILTY

Thanks, Patty. I think it's because I have RL lawyers in my family and that's my archetype that I tend to think like that. I have written this formula down and will keep it handy as I sleuth.

Also, is it true what I have heard that this version of Sleuth is going to be obsolete now the Shades of Mystery is going up? I love this game.

Please read my other post about new game ideas under "Sleuth Talk"

Thanks (-:

Dunno where you heard that one, but SOM is designed to be a completely separate entity, from what we've been told by the creators. Sleuth Noir is only going to be obsolete if people choose to stop participating.

The creators say it's going to be different, but how much different will/can it be? Interview suspects, search for evidence, bust the guilty party.

Apparently, from the sheer number of inactive players, there must be something going on to make people not want to play anymore.

There's still a lot of active people on here Jordan :) Dont underestimate the numbers :)

The game concept might be essentially the same, but if you check out the screenshots, etc. for the new game, you'll find the dynamic completely different.
