Hi, kinda new still and having a great time, but quick question:
When I got to the detective store, they always have the same items, yet I click on the names of people and they have all sorts of different items that aren't in the detective store. And the townies keep giving me the same items as favors, so my question is, do you have to subscribe to get the really good items? Or does the detective store change its stock as you get items and move up in exp?

The detective store never changes.
You get different items (better too!) when you have higher difficutly of favors. You can get more difficult favors by doing cases and favors and gettting exp.
The factions are also out there. LCN, OS, and DAB are open to the non-subbed, but subscribed members also get 3 more factions in the other cities.
Big Lucy offers some items as well.
Finally, some items are hard to get because there are only a few out there. Good examples are the Magic Top Hat and the Santa Hat. The Santa Hat was given away at Christmas of 2004 (no more will be made - I think there are only 2 left. Myself and Stanz have them.) and the Magic Top Hat is given out at the Admin's discretion.
