This is the thread that should include discussion about the content, beginning, ending, deaths (possible), and new characters in the book.

Spoilers may not be posted in another thread unless that thread has "(WARNING: SPOILERS)" in the title.

After I read the last book, I definitely think he is. One, he broke Dumbledore's trust. Two, he killer "somone" important. Three, he even tried to kill the others, except Harry who he said is for Voldermort. I just figure that in order to kill, you must have something evil inside you. Why do you believe he is not evil, I am very interested, especially if I didn't notice something important.

Well, its just the way you interpret his actions. There is no real indication that he broke Dumbledores trust. I mean its highly plausible he is evil but it would be foolish to totally discount other options.

As much as I've never liked Snape, he's never been 'evil' before. I'm not sure what to think of him - JRK before seemed to be advocating the idea to look past appearences, and now THIS happens! Snape, I'm pretty sure, was bound by that Unbreakable Vow for the purposes of killing Malfoy. I have to wonder, though, would he have done it without the vow?

Yes, that is true. If he hadn't helped Malfoy, he would have died. Maybe he is also afriad of death.

Wow, I was posting way to late at night. I meant killing Dumbledore, not Malfoy!

Out of curiosity, did anyone not like HBP? We have heard so far only likes, that is why I am curious.

I'm trying to get the book, but my dad say's that it's to crazy to get the book now, so I have to wait 'til Harry Potter mania dies down to get my hands on the book!

Snape should have died instead of Dumbledor. I think he is afriad of death. Stupid Malfoy. Becoming a Death Eater. But it was avery good book. Another person I do not like is Slughorn. He creeped me out.

Well... frankly, I didn't like it as much as the previous book. For one thing, romantic that I am, with all of the pairing up, it read like teen-aged fan fiction.
I found it some how more predictable - look, Dumbledore's not doing well, what's going to happen to him! Malfoy looks evil, oh wait... he IS evil! I also missed the interaction with the other students, particularly Neville and Luna. Considering how well Rowling built up their characters last book, it was a surprise to see them fade into the background again.
Perhaps my expectations were too high. Not to say that I did not like the book - it's probably #3 on my HP list (after PoA and OoP) but some how... it's clearly a middle segment in a series, waiting for its end.

I too was kind of disappointed at not having Neville built up more in this book as he was in the last one. I was hoping that his strength of character in Order of the Phoenix would catapult him into a majory player. Oh well. And Snape is evil! Dumbledore was one of the purest souls in the books and Snape killed him--that's evil in *my* book
