When I pick a lock and find the suspect's calendar with no entry, can I take this as 'No alibi' and save asking the question?
I've had this happen a few times and every time I've asked for the alibi I get 'none of your business'.

Yep. When the journal is empty it means they are going to tell you it's none of your business if you ask about their alibi. So, you don't need to ask, if you take notes. :)
