The sixth of seven books will be released this week.

Any speculations on who the Half-Blood Prince is?

I think it may be Draco Malfoy. He is from a 'pure' family, but JK Rowling does say on her site that "none of these families is really pure - in other words, they simply cross off Muggles and Squibs off the family tree and pretend that they didn't exist." Also, "This subject (pure-bloods not being fully pure) is touched upon in 'Half-Blood Prince.'"

I think it may be a clue from JK Rowling that the Half-Blood Prince is a "pure-blood."

On the other hand, we know little about Nearly Headless Nick except of his execution and that he was some form of royalty. I believe he may be the Half-Blood Prince too, as, he could fit the 'prince' part.

Thoughts on who the Half-Blood Prince is?

I will be avoiding threads most likely, out of safety. But when I am done, I'd like to ask everyones permission if it is OK to moderate if I do find a spoiler somewhere? Or someone who is overly annoying in dangling it in front of someones face.

I agree. I love theories, but I do not want to find a spoiler by accident. I think if you find a spoiler in a thread that is not marked spoiler, then you should remove it.

No spoilers. Definatly. Who would want to ruin a perfectly good book? Wait . . . what about clues? Like some hints about the content . . .? Or would they be considered spoilers, too?

Jstkdn, I will do so.

Jstkdn, I also think we may want to get permission to moderate spoilers if they are put where they should not be as it ruins a story and could cause disappointment.

Shanty, ANYTHING that hints to, gives away, or states anything unknown before reading HBP would probably be considered a spoiler.

There is now a thread for spoilers.

Please keep spoilers to that thread and only threads that have "(WARNING: SPOILERS)" in the title.

I think the safety is, anyone who has started to read the book, does not go back posting in this thread that does not have a spoiler warning.

I think that the Half-Blood Prince is Harry Potter because remember Lily Potter, his mom, was muggle born. So, Harry, perhaps the son of the queen and king Lily and James (metaphorically speaking), is the prince. Oh, and aren't kings and queens mainly well-liked? The Potters were quite popular as I recall! I also have another theory... remember in the prophecy, how it was kill or be killed between Harry and Neville? As was foretold in the prophecy, Harry and Neville had to kill or die. And Neville was from a "pure-blood" family, but his magical skills were quite poor. So maybe he's the half-blood Prince?

JK has said neither Harry nor Voldemort is the half-blood prince.

And in the prophecy, it said "And either must die at the hand of the other for neither can live while the other survives." This refers to Harry and VOLDEMORT, not Harry and Neville.

Perhaps Harry has to protect the half blood prince, while Voldemort has to kill him.

Interesting Idea. The Thing with Neville was that it was possible for Nevile to be the one that banished He who must not be named, as he fit all the prophesy's requirments-as did Harry. Execpt Voldemort marked Harry when he attacked him, therefore (probably, that is) Nevile is no longer in the equasion. But...
