The G-8 leaders are discussing issues in Edinburgh, Scotland. The Live 8 concerts back on July 2 have probably helped the issue of African poverty. But what about Global Warming? I've posted this thread to alert you of the G-8 summit. That's all!

The issues of poverty and the environment are inextricable, Madame TBird. You cannot responsibly deal with one and not the other.

If, for example, the world leaders are successful in raising standards in the poorer countries, then the energy consumption will increase - if there are no ecologically sound means of meeting this increased energy consumption in these countries, then it will just compound the already evident problems we're seeing in the environment today.

As for rather seeing a fish die than a human - well of course. Unfortunately, the environmental problems this planet is facing are a little more serious than a few dead fish. As humans, we are actually quite reliant on our environment for our survival. Historically, such things as clean air, clean water and clean food have been quite important to us.

Main issues I believe are: Poverty, Global Warming, and Terrorism. We cannot go back and change the terrorist attacks that happened in London yesterday, but we can support the G-8 leaders in figuring out a way to end terrorism once and for all.
P.S: I give my deepest sympathy for the victims and innocent people of London's bombing attacks. May peace be with them always.

Blaise Joshua, Madame TBird, and MarcusAndrew, all of you have made wonderful points. You all would make great G-8 leaders :)
