I notice still a lot of unsubbed people go through time and effort to find an agency to join on the recruitment thread.

Perhaps maybe it is a better idea to give them read only rights, and when they try to post that they are directed to a new page with a disclaimer (or FAQ) on only being able to join agencies when they are subbed. Then a list of reasons to sub. If there are more questions to go to the newbies thread.

I'd be willing to write it, with some help of other experienced Sleuths.

The disclaimer/FAQ may become a good comprehensive guide for people who are not aware of the additional benefits subscribing would bring.

I suppose writing the FAQ may be a good idea, regardless of this idea.

If I work on something and post it in here, will some experienced subbed Sleuths help out with adding ideas that I may have missed?

Well, the idea sounds like an okay way of getting around the recurring need to explain why someone isn't eligible to join an agency :)

I think the easiest solution is to make the words that are already on the top of the board, *Only Subscribers are eligible to join a detective agency*, bolder, larger and in a more striking color, or background color. It does not stand out as is. :)

I think that's a great idea Jstkdn. As the unsubbed detective is obviously interested in joining an agency, your idea will give them the best information straight away without them having to wait.

I think this is a good idea too. I'm assuming that in order to express their interest if they are subscribed they would then have to contact one of the Directors or Officers?

This might also prevent non-recruiting conversations occurring in recruiting threads. For better or worse, being read-only would also prevent bumping threads to the top, yes?

Well it could be a marketing instrument.

How about splitting in sections:
1. Additional features (with short explanation of what it is.)
2. Team play (how)
3. Additional social activity
4. How and where to sub?

Any other sections?

Maybe also suggestions for things to consider when selecting which agency to be a part of, such as required level of activity (play daily or not), does the agency participate in hunts with zeal, etc.

Ooooh good one yes.

So:
5. Tips on asking questions, to find out if the agency is a good fit for you.

I remember when I first started I had no idea what a hunt (or indeed an agency) was about. I joined an agency run by a newbie who also didn't really know what hunts were about. This may be because of my general blondness - It did take me a few days to discover the Featured Mystery FAQ, d'oh - but maybe a quick rundown of a hunt would be useful?
And maybe a screenshot or something so you can see the scope of an agency - like an agency tutorial, where all the links work from HQ but obviously it's just a tour. There's not a lot apart from comments on the message boards to show unsubs how much of a difference an agency makes.
Then maybe newbies would realise how much work goes into a high ranking agency and we'd get fewer agencies with people that don't have the know how running them...

The bigger writing idea won't work... I have had people post right under the post in giant capitals telling the last one to post thay MUST BE SUBSCRIBED... *starts pulling hair out...*

Ooh, and a read only idea would stop time wasters posting that they just want to be friends four times in a row on an out of date post and bumping it.....*manic grin*

OK, the Reaper's link under community links does the agency tour thing really well. So maybe just a link to that?
