Some of us have interesting reasons to pick a detective name. What is yours?

jstkdn which some people don't realize right away stands for JuST KiDding! It is something I tend to say a lot in real life after a lot of sentences. A good friend of mine in the US had jstkdn as a license plate of her car, so I wasn't that inventive myself.

My previous other agent was PM, which stands for Project/Program Manager, my profession in real life.

My only detective that I currently play with is freelancermountaineer. Only because Freelancer was taken. Sidney Bristow in the Alias series uses two call signs freelancer and mountaineer.

I was on my old account named Pokecat, it was my E-mail name that got stuck to me.

After 3 strikes, I resigned up as Verora, a name I made up to advoid picking a taken name. And it sounds cool too.

I wish I can change my name. :P Oh well, I would've named it Captain Jolly Gumdrops (don't ask) but my sis sneaked cardcaptor72 into it and did the rest while I wasn't doing it and doin' something else. -.-;;

Cardcaptor, you haven't gone too far with this character. You could start a new one.

I like your name. It's very original, unlike mine where I couldn't be bothered making up a new name!

Having played briefly under another name, I knew a little of what to expect. So I did things a bit backward. I chose the kind of detective I wanted, then the pic I wanted, and lastly chose a name.

I knew that I wanted a "very charming" archetype because it would give me an edge early on in the puzzling. I couldn't come up with a very charming male concept for the time period, so I chose to make my detective a female. I came up with 3 possible very charming female stereotypes to chose from:
1) The adorable old lady.
2) The femme fatale.
3) The party girl (mildly flapperish).

I passed on the first because I was never a Miss Marple type fan. (I'm a big Poirot fan though)
I also passed on the second as I felt it was too obvious.
So I chose the third, and now I needed a name.

I wanted a name that hinted at being sexy. "Foxy" first thing that came to mind, but Foxy wasn't subtle enough, nor was it be a valid nickname for any girl's proper name. Recalling that Rachel Welch was nicknamed "Roxy" - and "Roxy" seemed to fit the bill. It had a hint of sexiness to it, and it also could be a nickname for someone named Roxanne.

After looking at the default pics - I chose one that fit the time period and the character best. It had some features (dark hair, pronounced nose) that hinted at possibly being Jewish. So for a surname, I chose a Jewish connection. I wanted to stay away from the obvious stuff "gold-, silver-, -burg, -stein" and settled on Rosen. Mostly because I liked the alliteration with R's in Roxy Rosen. However, that name didn't quite roll of the tongue as much as I would like, so I modified it a bit to Roxy Rosenthal.

I was unclear as to how strong or weak the anti-semitic mood was at the time, but when I learned that the intermarriage rate for Jewish Americans was quite high even back then, I figured that it was a non-issue.

So there you go - Ya I know, it's far more than you wanted to know
*grin*

I've used this name for about 10 years at various sites. One day I was on a site and needed a nickname, I was drawing a complete blank. I looked down at my freebie mousepad (bigtime freebie hunter :P) I had gotten from Kmart or WalMart (can't remember which) and it said "Shopping Online Is Fast, Easy And Safe" soooo I took the first letter of each word and have been stuck with Soifeas every since. The fact that I've never seen anyone else use it is a big bonus cause its always available on any site :)
