Some of us have interesting reasons to pick a detective name. What is yours?

jstkdn which some people don't realize right away stands for JuST KiDding! It is something I tend to say a lot in real life after a lot of sentences. A good friend of mine in the US had jstkdn as a license plate of her car, so I wasn't that inventive myself.

My previous other agent was PM, which stands for Project/Program Manager, my profession in real life.

My only detective that I currently play with is freelancermountaineer. Only because Freelancer was taken. Sidney Bristow in the Alias series uses two call signs freelancer and mountaineer.

My name came from me messing about with my usual nick on the net, Brasco, which is sort of a shorthened version of my real surname, and comes from the film Donnie Brasco. I used to mess around with this name on MSn changinf it to all sorts of variations. I added "De Gama" after a South American Football/Soccer team that was in the World Club Championship Final "Vasco da Gama" who in turn are named after a Portuguese explorer. Naturally, out of my ignorance, I ballsed up the spelling, but if I don't say anything, very few people will spot it..... oh

My nick name is the first name of an actor who is a detective in TV. I tried to take his TV-Detective name but it was used already. That's all I can say about my nick name :-)

When my husband and I became engaged I was very excited to get the last name of, "Vo", as I think:

Laura Vo, Woman of Mystery

has a good ring to it.

(Yes it's my real name, but I am very happy with it.)

Born Butch. Thats it. However, in this age of technology and the need to find good codenames or aliases when playing online games and such, I had to choose the most obvious nickname I could find. Butcher. Been called that since the mid 90s at the time of Dune, Duke Nukem and Doom.

When I joined Sleuth, the girl I was with was named Vei. And seeing as how Im telling her that Im hers... I decided to christen my detective 'Butcher de Vei' (sounds great as well, I think.) I just added the 'Sir' title to give the detective a hint of nobility. =)

The name I used for my first detective was John Eastman. Eastman is a movie production company that they make a joke about in "Science Theatre". John was the name that fit best in my head (and I've used that name for PIs in other games, like the All Flesh Must Be Eaten survival horror pen & paper rpg, and UrbanDead.com).

Then I made a new detective by the name of Fo Deng. This is from a long time ago when me and some friends played the very first beta of Counter Strike. You couldn't type in å, ä or ö (Swedish letters) and so the talk took other forms. I got killed frequently and Fo Deng sounds an awful lot like "få däng" which is slang for "get your ass kicked" (I wrote something along the lines of "one can get his ass kicked" as a chat message and thought it sounded like a Chinese name, and I've used it since, in GunBound among other games).

So, when I recently was gonna start over I tried to pick a name that connected to my poker hobby, but Jack Diamond, Ace Spade, Ace Diamond and so on were all taken. Jim Diamond wasn't (though it hasn't got much to do with cards).

"Stardust" is what a....friend....of mine used to call me; since it was already taken I decided to use "Stardust01". Not very creative or detective-ish, I know...ahaha.

When I created my detective, I had an idea for her background before I picked the name. The name itself was always supposed to be her alias.

I picked the name Talia, just because I like the way it sounds, I thought it was appropriate. Then I picked Rune as a last name, as it's derived from a Nordic female name. The name means secret or secret lore.

Mnemophage = memory eater. I picked it entirely because it sounds cool.

I realized after the fact that it didn't sound very detective-ish, but it still makes for a fairly awesome nickname.
