Competitions to earn subsciptions for newbies would be nice?

I don't really think that is a good idea, because it isn't fair to those of us who paid for their subscriptions. It doesn't cost alot to subscribe so I see no need for anything like that. If you want something free, you can always write a Featured Mystery, and if Ben uses it, you get a free subscription to Sleuth. (am I right on that?) I think that is fair and good enough! :) My opinion!

I agree Mackenzie, it would be unfair on those who pay for subscriptions. I can see that it might be difficult to write a featured mystery if you've played one though. Perhaps there could be a sample featured mystery in order to give budding writers who arent subscribed some idea of how to go about it!
