Is there really no way to gain the benefits without subscribing?

Like a contest or something for ex. where the winner is able to play as if he subscribed for a certain period.

Kind of lousy to not be able to join a faction/agency just because I didn't pay :(

I see what you're saying but being able to join agencies and participate more is one of the incentives to subscribe ;) The prices are VERY reasonable! Not expensive at all! The lowest is $5 and some odd cents for a month I believe....you can't beat that and it is well worth it :)

You can write a featured mystery. But this takes a lot of time.

Sleuth is actually a good game, you can play really cheap. Particularly compared to other paid online games. Even what you get now for free, is way lot better then other free online games.

There has to be a difference between a payed and non-payed subcriber. Otherwise it is unfair. This site can not run for free.

Sleuth is not a money making endeavor. All the money we put in is for hardware and licenses. The guy that maintains the site, does it for free, no one is getting a sallary.

That's a cheap price for those who don't live in third world countries. In my country that would be nearly 250 every month.

Then writing a featured mystery is the only solution.

Sorry Jake...as jstkdn said, writing a featured mystery is the only solution. Good luck!!

Yeah, that was something I was hoping for.

I'm glad there's an alternative like that. Any references where I can get an idea how to write a good one?

If you go to City Hall and click the link Submitting content to Sleuth...you can get an idea on how to do one. If there is anywhere else, someone else can chime in :)

Actually you can join a faction when you're unsubscribed.

The only things you can't enjoy as unsubscribed are agencies and travelling.

The thing is that there are certain factions you can't join unless you can travel and you can't travel unless you're subscribed..
