Concerned about Switching?

Someone brought it to my attention that some members of the Sleuth community are concerned about my switching from Doppelgangers to The Underground yesterday. I am happy to address concerns here.

Doppelgangers was created as a place for some members of The Underground to store their second characters, so that we might have more active avatars (and other real people) in The Underground. A few months ago I left The Underground because I'd started a new part-time job, and school was hectic. I did not have time to uphold my playing level commitment to The Underground, so I left and placed myself in The Underground with my other double character, Alamette.

Yesterday an place opened up in The Underground and I was asked to rejoin. I've left my job and have more time, so I said yes. I rejoined The Underground yesterday. I have not done any switching back and forth recently, the last time any of my characters were in The Underground was in January, I believe. Then, last night, another position opened up and another member of Doppel wanted to rejoin The Underground, Lady K. We invited her back as well. Lady K also has not done any regular switching back and forth and was last in The Underground in January.

Neither myself nor Lady K has done any favors for hunts. In fact, The Underground has not entered any new hunts since yesterday, and we do not plan to. Given the recent, exciting expansion of the game, I think it is natural that older players such as myself and Lady K would want to become more active again to explore the new aspects of the game.

I know that Moonshh has explained Doppel & The Underground's relationship before, but we will be glad to continue to explain it to alleviate any suspicion that we are doing something wrong. Please, if you have concerns about the way that we are playing the game, don't hesitate to contact our members & ask us about it directly. We are warm, open, and friendly people who want to uphold the ideals of the community.

Yes, I will stand by everything Orbitrux posted.

I want to emphasize the point about contacting us directly. Sleuth is a small community, and little things can have a big impact, as we have recently seen.

We want to keep things as nice around here as they usually are!

Two people left our agency, and two people joined. That's really about it.

You guys have been great parts of the Sleuth community, and I don't have any issues with storing your character while you chill out.

The only thing I don't understand is that you could just quit your agency - you don't have to belong to another one if you're not playing. Obviously there's some advantage to renting parking space as it were (even if its not clear to me) -

In any case, I don't see it as disadvantaging other agencies (we have been through that, haven't we???) - so again - its fine with me.

The reason I set up Doppel was because I wanted to still play when I had the time. And it is a big advantage to have access to other player's contacts, so we set up a shop. If I wanted to quit The Underground and not play at all, I wouldn't have set up Doppel. :)

This is an effort to head gossip off at the pass.

We fired someone who now tells us she was given information about us from someone not in the agency, who told her why we let her go. I can't imagine how this would be known outside the agency, so I have to think this informant is being being purposefully misinformative.

This information was inaccurate, but I have no way to fight it. The person we fired is angry and hurt and took someone else from the agency. We wish them well in their new agency and sincerely hope it works out to be a better match for them.

As we also fired someone else for other reasons, there are now three new members in our agency who all used to be in it before.

It's not such a big coincidence that there are old members returning to the fold when this cool new expansion has just happened, but we didn't plan to boot all these people to get our old members back.

It has simply worked out that as we've had spaces open up, these folks have expressed an interest in returning to the agency.

I have no other way except by public forum to address these issues, as my "accuser" is anonymous. And further discussion is probably not so valuable, as it's my word against someone else's - not easy to prove or disprove.

I also want to avoid the bad feelings that have arisen when I have posted before about the scrutiny that somehow seems to dog The Underground, although I am not sure that's possible...

But I thought I would put this information out there anyhow, for what it's worth.

I don't know what else to do. It's very upsetting to me.

You guys have been open about what happened in this forum. Which is why it disappoints me, that it is still not resolved for some people.

I too struggle with I am sure an issue you guys had too. Probably this is the reason why you had to let go of an agent, as Orbi mentioned above about 2 returns from the past. On one hand I should replace Faery, but what if she comes back and I am the max of 12 with a new recruit???
I would end up in the same situation as you guys. With a lot of talk behind the scene's, a disappointed or even angry new recruit I have to let go, for someone who has done a lot for the agency in the past, and a good mate! I mean Orbi has been part of the underground since the beginning, on the other hand I can understand your new recruit is disappointed. The agent you let go, did talk to me. Asking to join my agency, after which I asked why? (I mean I not in to hiring bad crop, of other agencies, most people get booted for a reason.) She did not know why she was booted, then I saw Orbi's post, and suggested the person to read this thread. Apparently, you guys had good reasons to want to let go of someone. And the agent was let go should not consider it that is something with them, or did something wrong.

This person has every right to be disappointed. But when can you do?!? I think the people talking, should have a bit more understanding for the dilemma that you guys must have been in. And should try a little harder, to walk a mile in your shoes.

I am thinking now, we shouldn't recruit. Look at what can happen.....
I do think, in all honesty, that replacing Orbi and LadyK at the time was perhaps a mistake. But we all make those.

Just my 2 cts. Most of all, sleuth community if you have issues with the Underground, maybe it is an idea to *talk* to them. Just a wild idea here. I did message orbi, and still have all my limbs, she did not rip them off.

Perhaps, the agent would not have been angry, if she was explained why she was let go. Instead of having to guess as to why. I don't know if you did or not.

I do know from experience, this doesn't always help. I had to let go of two agents in the past, explained in detail why.....and the situation got worse.

Also sometimes it can be a situation of "we are just not a good fit, and are not seeking the same thing from the game or being in an agency together." Without being able to say, you don't play enough, or you stole equipment, or situations like that.

I agree with Jstkdn's last comment. Sometimes an agent just doesn't play the length of time you need. Or sometimes they don't play the same way the rest do. Or the wrong times. And sometimes there is just a personality clash. But even if you explain the reason, it will still hurt. A horrid mess, hurts both people and others besides, a painful experience and makes no sense even with a good reason. Bit like a relationship break-up really.

Oh and not really anyone else's business. Which I think maybe is what the others were trying to say.

I stand by rehiring the three agents. We had the space, they wanted in, and there was no reason not to do it, except for public opinion.

No one outside the agency can know what happened unless we tell you, and how much dirty laundry do you want washed in public?
