Do I have to buy the Intermediate skill before purchasing the Advanced skill?

May seem like a dumb question but i want to know before I buy...

I there isn't an intermediate rule bending or intermediate intimidation though...
It really got me confused when I started out, it made me think I could skip intermediates. (but that isn't the case) :(

You can only skip them if they aren't there!

Yeah, the suspect skills (Interrogation and Sweet Talking) have three levels each. The townie skills (Rule Bending and Intimidation) only have two. Also, there are no physical evidence skills with more than two levels.
