Charm VS. Smarts

I had 6 charm points which helped my sweet talking and bend the rules skills. I had a scarf and an umbrella. Then I earned a briefcase, and they told me that i had to sell one of the three. I sold the scarf not realizing that these objects affected my charm points. Now I have 4 charm points and 2 smart points. Did I mess up? Is it better to have more points of one skill or try to have a combination of points for charm and smarts? Also, can you tell me if it is possible to be in favor with more than one of the three political factions. Right now I have +16 with the Order of Socrates, -9 with the Dies Arcanum, and -11 with Cosa Nostra. I can't improve my standing with the two others without hurting what I have built up with the Order of Socrates. Any suggestions?

It is very difficult to be positive with 2 factions and doesn't seem to me to be worth much. i would just focus on improving with Socrates and then later (after you have many other skills) i would get the hypnosis skill which they will offer you when they like you a lot.

Thanks tdb and Jake for the input. I had read the Help file in the beginning, but I have gone back and read about the skills again. I understand it better now. Thanks.

If you don't plan on subscribing and, joining an agency, what you keep is really important because you don't have the option of storing or taking things from the equipment locker like members of an agency do..
I would stay with os until I could buy the equipment that they offer.. DAB has really nice items for a charming detective also..
