I wanted to give you advanced warning. I'm starting to work on three new skills for players to purchase. There will be one each from the three statistics. It will probably be another 2 or 3 weeks before you can buy those skills. I particularly wanted to warn those of you with a lot of experience, just to give you the option of saving up skill points, since they come so slowly.

Oops, they are fingering themselves, aren't they. That should be fixed.

I made an effort to design the skills so that only the charm one (hypnotism) was of direct help solving cases. Charm seemed to be slightly weaker than the other two stats and I wanted to correct that. In my opinion, all three skills are worth having, no matter what kind of detective you have (with the exception of Safe Cracking if you are not part of an agency).

If everybody agrees that Pick Pocketing is not useful enough, I could add a secondary use for it. One very common complaint I get is that sometimes people in the mid-levels of difficulty get stuck with a guilty client for several cases in a row, and end up broke. So, that one in particular was based on feedback I've been getting from players.

Yeah, I already got a stern talking to about that from JasonS53. I was told that I'd better watch it or I'd be banned. :)

Actually, I'm not sure about Charm being weakest. I think the effect of flirting is underrated. It is certainly the least popular, however.

When I worked this out for myself some time ago, I was sure that flirting tipped the balance to Charm since you got at least one extra answer from half the interviewees. If I were to start again, I would think Charm/Smart would be the most efficient, especially early on. In addition to Flirting, Charm clothes have a total higher bonus. You can get to +18 in Charm, Only +17 in Tough. That will be reduced to +16 when Ben updates the code to not allow two of the same item. And of course, you now have Hypnosis. But I was pretty sure Charm had an edge even before Hypnosis. Although Ben is the authority and his word on this should be final. He designed the calculations for the tests and if the factors are not identical, Tough could easily be more effective in the long run. So if Ben says Tough is easier, I belive him. (I'm still in my Charm clothes though!) ;-)

To clarify Chuck's point, you can still get +18 Charm even without 2 of the same item (if you have a Silver-Handled Cane and Very Expensive Perfume as your 2 "hand" items). Is it just Tough, then, that will be affected by the "no two of the same item" change?

Yes, as far as I know Tough is the only one that would be affected by a double item change. I believe both Smart & Charm can still get +18 with all different items.

Actually, I'm thinking about it, and I think that the Admin was thinking lockpicking and research definitely give Tough and Smart a distinct advantage-- and actually, he's very right!

Actually Charm does have an advantage, as Fat Chuck pointed out (see above).

As to why it is least popular, I guess the reason is pretty obvious, isn't it? [Hint: This is a Gumshoe/Sleuth game!]
