Cats, dogs, snakes, and parrots can be found on the Battery Boardwalk if you know where to look :)

The blank area on the middle left of your 'Equipment' profile (marked ???) is where pets will appear if - as Cassie has said - you are able to find them at the Boardwalk.

However, other animals - such as the peacocks, rabbits, and foxes - are found elsewhere in the game. Often they are 'awarded' as a complete surprise when you reach certain levels or visit certain places.
