You can store items in there and also cases. Those are about the most useful features. When you get a bedroom you need to buy furniture where you can put your items away. When you buy a study you need to buy a desk also to file your cases. There's different types of furniture depending how many items/files you want to put away. The max is 9 files.
You can also move apartments to other cities. It's not for free so keep an eye on your finances. Be warned that when you have cases stored and you move to another city you won't be able to play them anymore.
