Are skill points awarded on level of experience achieved rather than individual case success. Thus explaining why an early low level case can give 2sp but much later on a higher level case can give none.

Would be handy to know so as to be able to decide if one should grind a level that they can complete almost 100% or hit and miss with much harder cases.

As you gain more XP the longer it will take to gather skill points. The exact chart I don't have. When you reach 100k XP you'll unlock the highest level cases which gives you 5120 XP per case. Eventually even that will take quite some time before getting to your next sill point.

Not sure if there is such a thing as THE most efficient path. Best way to go is get those skills first that require the most skill points such as research. The amount of skill points you have to spend on a certain skill also depends on what archetype your detective is. For instance if your detective is Very Smart all the analysis skills will be much cheaper than any other archetype.
