a little idea re: unwanted skills

I noticed that a number of people are quite "pissed off" that they got skills that have turned out to be useless, a total waste of points. Perhaps there can be some sort of "Skills Marketplace"? Or perhaps a chance to trade skills with the Shady Character or Larry the Toe? This way people who discover they have no use for certain skills can put them up for sale at the said Marketplace, then others who may need or just want that skill can buy it. Special skills may only be sold to those who do not have negative points with the pertinent organanization.

Of course, the selling price should be less than the original cost (& the Shady Character or Larry the Toe can make a profit of a point or two), but at least the seller can gain back some of those hard-earned points.

For example, a Detective may sell Lock Picking or Flirting or Safe Cracking. Another Detective may already be at a stage when s/he needs any or all of those. Could be sold for 6, 2 & 5 respectively (or for some cash), and the Shady Character or Larry the Toe could pass it on for a little more.

While I am sure that eventually there will be more points than what a Detective would know what to do with, it would be nice if a Detective can regain some points at a time when it is needed most. This may lead to less early retirees, which is less cumbersome for players and might (just might) lessen their having to cook up uncouth name :-)

I am with jstkdn on this. I think that even though some of us have been grumbling about the game getting harder, the game is more fun when it is not too easy. Skill sharing or selling would be another way to make it easier.

Being careful about what skills you get is indeed part of the strategy of the game.

There was a time when I asked Ben to take away my Interrogation skill as I used to click on it by accident when I wasn't wearing tough gear. But now I have repurchased it, along with all the tough skills, because now the judge of character skill actually serves a purpose.

While I still hate changing clothes in the middle of a case, at least I now have a full "skills toolbox" and can be smart, tough, or charming as I choose in any given situation.

So while I still believe that there are some skills that are higher priority than others, I no longer see any particular skill as totally useless.

And if you keep playing, your frustration will pass, and you, too, will have more skill points than you know what to do with.

Hey everyone, just thought I'd throw in my two cents worth here...lol. I'm an "old timer player" here & because I've been playing a long time, I've purchased all skills available & presently have 238 unspent skills. Hopefully there'll be new skills created to buy, or other ways to rid of them. Anyway, if it never happens, I've no complaints. Though I've not been able to play much these past few months, I look forward to logging on so I can read the message boards, to keep updated on what's happening here & to solve the great mysteries written by most of you here. Thank you all for helping make Sleuth a great game, and a special thanks to Ben & Sunny for creating this game in the first place. "SLEUTH ROCKS".

PS: I agree with both you, jstdkn & Moonshh. Things shouldn't be made easier.

I apparently am in the minority, but I agree with Ace and Rai. I have purchased skills that I cannot use, or that I see no benefit in having them. I understand Moonshh's point about being able to change skills in the middle of the investigation, but what about those of us who aren't in an agency? Then we have no way to change skills or gear. This can be very frustrating, especially if you are in a low points slump.

Autumnsprings, sometimes I find that judge of character shows it would be better to use the other set of skills, even if I am not dressed for them. So it's not all about changing clothes. And you don't need to be in an agency to change skills. But I think that in the long term, subscribing and joining an agency is the best way to play the game anyway. So why not do it earlier, rather than later?

apart from making it too easy and taking the element of planning out of the game, I think it's also very not logical to sell skills. skills are not items! they r things u have learned. In real life u also learn things u cant immidiatly use. You cant unlearn something.

I agree that the game should not be made easier in order to maintain the challenge. However, though you cannot unlearn something in real life, one can always sell or teach a skill in order to make a living :-)

Funny though, Ace does not actually have a prob with the skills he got. I guess he posted it on behalf of our friends who grumbled a lot about their unwanted skills. He posted a basic newbie guide for newbie slike us so I guess that's as easy as we can all make it :-)

I think having unwanted skills is something we all went through. I think few are an exception. No matter how well planned out it was. I mean, most of the time your second physical evidence contact shows up by the time you already have bought a few smart skills. I would certainly not want to buy a footprint skill instead of a handwriting skill, if I get the shoemaker the next day. Chances are that you do.

It is nice for Ace to post this for his friends.

What I noticed in most threads about making the game easier or harder. People tend to be against it. They like the game just as it is. And that is actually a compliment to Ben. So we are doing well.
