I’ve been listening to Sondheim’s musical Sweeney Todd and so now I’m singing “A Little Priest” and “....there was a barber and his wife...” whenever I visit the townies.

Anyone else get certain songs stuck in your head as you play?

Ooh, that album sounds interesting. What's it called? Also, are you looking forward to Spielberg's version?

Hi Carmen. It's called "Vintage Movie Themes from Hollywood (Best 100 Classics) - Vol 1".

I'll definitely go to see Speilberg's version. I understand he is going to stick more closely to the Broadway stage version than the Laurents/Bernstein/Sondheim film adaptation - so that will be interesting to see. However, Spielberg's work is often quite schmaltzy and I wouldn't want an over-sugared version of West Side Story. Also I'm not sure about Ansel Elgort in the role of Tony.

I think it's going to be released in December in the US - which means we'll probably have to wait a bit longer to see it in the UK.

I agree with the Tony casting. I'm mostly excited to see the new movie because it'll be nice to hear new talent. Little to no musicals are staged in my area. :/

I am definitely missing all the normal opportunities we have in my community for performing and watching live theatre. Movie musicals are as good as it gets for the time being! I hadn’t realized WSS was coming back!

Two of my favorite musicals are Moulin Rouge and Camelot (I'm *really* showing my age here) with Richard Harris, Vanessa Redgrave, and Franco Nero. Everyone raved about Nicole Kidman in Moulin Rouge but I personally thought Ewan McGregor carried that movie. Phenomenal actor. My one achieved "bucket list" item was seeing Camelot in stage with Richard Harris, but unfortunately by then he had performed King Arthur so many times, he basically just ran through his lines. Or maybe he was just having an off day - but I was really disappointed.

Ewan McGregor in Moulin Rouge is spectacular! What are your thoughts on the Broadway album?

I'll be sure to check Camelot out. I think a distant cousin would be the musical series "Galavant".

Anyone familiar with Fiddler on the roof?

Who day and night
must scramble for a living
feed his wife and children
say his daily prayers
And who as the master of the house
has the final say?

The papa! Tradition!
